Tool – 10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2) Lyrics 18 years ago
Sorry this related to central message from another song I like. . .Arcade Fire's "The Well & the Lighthouse". .& yes I think even Maynard is afraid of death esp Judith Marie's. . .esp given the incredible example she was

"Everybody is ready to believe the thing he
fears and the thing he desires."

. . .I believe in some ways it is necessary to violently take ideas & rip them into tangentialities regardless of other peoples' taste

Maynard’s song “10,000 Days” destroys me & resurrects me BTW without any theological/Christian bullshit.

Very touching shit.

Dante’s afterlife conception in "The Divine Comedy" is leaking into everything I see. . .a good thing I guess. . .a key thingee in the movie Seven. . .sorry to link that with this song. .

. .but if the shoe fits baby. . .

Lot of great comments. I appreciate them

. . .a lot of humility out there too. . .good 4 learning in general. I learned a lot from reading.

I am not honestly a "practicing" Christian but I find the metaphors compelling (my handle is technically Old Testament BTW so more old school bible . . .God I like that story & have struggled with it).

I doubt the God concept is foremost in Maynard's mind but that is my opinion. I think it is more immortality of the soul & the afterlife concept that looks like it came about more in the AE (AD) times vs BE (BC).

Maynard paraphrases Milton's Paradise Lost (abashedly I confess Morgan Freeman quoted this in the movie Seven):

“Long is the way And hard, that out of Hell leads up to light”
John Milton

"High is the way"

Maynard is very well read but I liked you all's comments better. we learn from each other.

thirdeyewide:

Lemon juice indeed. I will drink it.

U address the issue incidentally of consubstatiality BTW & I liked that a lot. Thank u.

Montheism or the unity of the trinity is more economically spiritual I think (only one god/spririt/entity to pray to which sounds flip but it appears like a historical theme)

"Consubstantiality" describes the relationship between the three Divine Persons of the Christian Trinity and conotes that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are "of one Being" in that the Son is "generated" ("born" or "begotten") "before all ages" or "eternally" of the Father's own Being, from which the Spirit also eternally "proceeds."

Baskethead:

U address the sacred femine thing Da Vinci Code mentions. . .

. . .sorry I am a pop culture freak in many ways but seek meaning in everything I see. Thank u.

that dimensions thing is very interesting. Thank u.

Bruce Springsteen – Bobby Jean Lyrics 18 years ago
Huhh. . I loved this song insanely years ago & still do but only upon recent reflection after lyrics analysis did I begin to suspect this was a song of serious guy on guy platonic love which is a beautiful thing.

C#m makes it sad?

Man I have got to learn music. . most of this sounds majorish to me.

The Faint – Glass Danse Lyrics 18 years ago
Ugghh I am reading the latest Harry Potter now that I coupled that song with the Dumbledore gay thing JK Rowling claimed to have done all I can do now is try not to see Dumbledore in a Miami club with this song pulsing in the background while strobe lights go off & on as he chickenhawks. . .disgusting sh*t.

Listen to the song man! Think of gay Dumbledore cruising the club with an old Grizzly Adams wise gay face as he sizes up the dudes in wifebeater T shirts with leather pants. . .ugghh. & then when u think u have escaped him you look in the mirror & you see Albus’s face behind yours & u realize u cannot escape him.

Also he doesn’t say anything when he meets u. . .he just shushes u with his finger as he shushes himself at the same time. . .& then he leads u out the door to his place (some nearby apartment where u can hear the beach) also he probably lives over the club (convenient).

To me this song with the bass scratch (also if u look at the video with the bright sun & kids in the park) has some kind of great "Rites of Spring" feel (also has discordant parts in it) with dangerous latent, languid sexuality in it (I guess it's S&Mish now that I think about it).

Interesting horse stuff above. . thanks for that

The Faint – Glass Danse Lyrics 18 years ago
I thought the Glass Danse recalled Tennessee William's "Glass Menagerie" which was about this messed up girl who treasured her little statues over life itself & then she falls in love. . .& somehow I threw in the cynical club shit & crap. . .my interpretations suck.

Sonic Youth – The Empty Page Lyrics 18 years ago
"It might help you both to lay off the weed a little."

That is hilarious although I dig multiple viewpoints.

I thought the empty page always related to turning the page in the book of ur life. Ughh that Bob Seger song comes to mind.

Also I recall when he asks "do u remember the time when u were new in town" & it sounds like they were just starting out & u r young & anything u do like smashing "ur head in the mirror" came off as novel. Dylan Thomas's "Fern Hill"'s "prince of the appletowns comes to mind. Growing up suffocated in a small town "time held me green & dying"

However I like some of the above interpretations better than my own. I can be full of it sometimes in my metaphorical stretches.

Actually there was meaningful interaction but I am writing that for the forlorn guy I gave the website to who will read this who will get pissed off that I referred to him as a possible homo. . .I LOVE U MIKE! "I'M WORRIED. . .I"M ALWAYS IN LOVE!"

Ughh. . .after a weekend of debauchery & no meaningful intimacy I am starting to think Tweedy is celebrating his romance with things other than human beings which he sounds self-deprecatory about.

We sometimes celebrate romances with chemicals/ visceral thrills as living life but sometimes that is bullshit. . .that is the way I read it. . .Jesus this guy depressed me when I first saw Wilco b4 I had ever listened to them & the melody apart from the lyrics fascinated me (great hooks! . . . .also great self-effacing digressions on stage in front of 300,000 of the best friends u could have ever met except for the a**holes I met who wouldn't let me take > 2 drags off their green). . .

I need to read these interpretations more deliberately but did anyone note the blatant New Order "Love Vigilantes" riff at the end? Neat!

Also there is no need to distinguish necessarily Greek & Roman figures/ deities (I think u meant Apollo BTW) b/c the Romans took over the culture from the Greeks so the term "Greco-Roman" encompasses that total mythology although the terms switch from Greek to Latin (ex Odysseus becomes Ulysses. . .Zeus becomes Jupiter. . .etc).
