| This is probably one of the catchiest songs on the album. I agree that it's probably about Charlize Theron. But it's kind of a summer song to me (sand on the concrete floors). I went to australia over the summer and the jeep that i was in actually did break down (ironic?) but it actually good to be a "tourist with a real light load". I felt free, which was something I hadn't felt in a long time. | |

My personal interpretation of this song is about summer love and how one person wants their relationship to be more than a summer fling but the other wants to move on (What will you do When the feelings that you have are through I need to know, cause I'll never stop playing an ode to you") I love how Stephan just says "and it makes me sad" at the end. It's short, honest, and simple. A lot of songwriters are afraid to be that simple, but sometimes its the most effective way to express emotion rather than to make up an elaborate extended metaphor; although theres nothing wrong with those either. Either way, its an awesome song, one of my favorites. |

At a concert Stephan Jenkins said "This song came from a journal entry that I was writing when I was on a train to see this girl I used to date." And at another concert he said "This song is about surfing and a girl I thought I should be having sex with but I wasn't" haha hes a pretty funny guy if you've ever had the chance to meet the band. This song is one of their best. right up there with god of wine, blinded, and wounded. |

i definitley think this song is all tied together with the icarus theme. as other people said icarus used a pair of wings made out of wax and feathers to escape the minotaur and the labryinth. He felt an incredible rush while flying high, but flew too close to the sun, despite his fathers warning, causing the wax to melt and ultimately icarus falling to his death in the sea. I think that "staring down the sun" means that he knows that trying to get back with this girl could hurt both of them, like he is flying towards the sun on a rush, but he will try anyways ("and I've just fallen back to Earth, still you know I'll try again") By the way, the live acoustic version of this song is amazing. At a concert that i went to in Nov 2007 Stephan said that theres going to be an album made of a bunch of live songs they did. cant wait for it. |

One of the things that I like most about 3eb is that most songs can have multiple meanings. As other people mentioned, Dionysus is the god of wine in Greek mythology. He discovered that wine had both good and bad effects on humans and gods. He realized that although wine can make you happy and carefree, it can also encourage foolish decisions. This song could be about alcoholism of a friend/girlfriend/family member. And how he tried to help her with her addiction and to "get clean again", but alcohol "understoood" her better than he did, and it was the only thing that could take the pain away. The girl didn't think anything seriously bad could happen to her, like being responsible for a drunk driving accident, but the alcohol "took you farther than you thought you'd ever want to go". The girl drinks alcohol and waits for it to take over her system, or "permeate" as it takes over her life, or "cancel out the day". Stephan can't stand to see the girl when alcohol has taken over her body and mind, and he can't "keep it all together". I think the "siren's song" is referring to an ambulance, although it probably could have a deeper meaning. Stephan arrives at the hospital when the girl is being taken in on a stretcher, and the "truth I can't erase" is him being like "wow this is real" because something bad has happened. And he sees the girl's face and how the alcohol makes her cold or emotionless. I'm not sure how the glamourous sunrise and fraudulent zodiac part can relate to this meaning. Although it is related to the existialism meaning in a quote by stephan jenkins. Stephan is kind of losing his mind after the girl's accident, and the girl isn't even there to help him through it ("now I'm going down, and you're not even around") Stephan remembers seeing her drinking alcohol and he tried to help her, but the alcohol "understood" her more than he did, and it could help her through the pain better than he could. And he is still haunted by seeing the girl's face on the night of the accident. That is my interpretation of the song. It's pretty literal and is just one of several possible meanings. |
