| The Shins – Mine's Not A High Horse Lyrics

the confrontation of which he speaks i understand as being about James Mercer's atheism. he's just told his girlfriend that he doesn't share her faith, and she suggest drowning him in holy water.
as for the last line, it seems more like the other person is pointing the blame finger, upon a high horse... parallel to the sky in both the literal sense and also in that god can be seen as judgemental and spiteful. |

| Tegan and Sara – Call It Off Lyrics

damn, this album ends without any closure. i feel like tegan has this recurring theme throughout (hop a plane, soil, soil, call it off) with a parade of references to this messed relationship she's had and in this song its finally ended (which i think is accurate, from some interviews i've read).. but she still doesn't know if it was the right thing to do.
phuket, thailand! spect that's life. |

| Tegan and Sara – Floorplan Lyrics

i think its about her tendency to want to get out when things start to get serious, when you "feel this building"
as though she wants to make it work (draw a floorplan, helpful hints), but she doesn't know herself what she's really looking for.
...yeah, probably Emy |

i love this song, and i think its pretty direct in its meaning.. but i don't understand the correlation with the title- SOIL,SOIL ? |

i think the uncertain, sort of ambiguous relationship bit is accurate.. but could this also have a more concrete meaning of tegan going back home?..
.. home i think is calgary, alberta which is east of vancouver (where she currently resides)
aw, pooty tang! i dont know |

I feel like I know both Tegan and Sara so well. Like almost disturbingly, they've confessed and displayed everything in their songs... which I suppose is the function of good musicians :) |

| Tegan and Sara – Are You Ten Years Ago Lyrics
| 18 years ago

it seems to me to be more of one person's insecurity in a relationship as opposed "on again, off again" behavior by both parties. she seems really hyperactive (up and doing circles), like she can't settle and be comfortable in the relationship.
then, at the end of the song, she lets herself be taken.. she commits |

the grandma thing clarifies a lot. but it still seems like a really personal song, that i could never fully understand unless sara explained it to me over a cup of coffee. which, unfortunately, isn't going to happen. |

| Tegan and Sara – The Con Lyrics

i'd say tegan is singing from the position of the 'cheated-on' as opposed to the cheater. its that time in the relationship when the impending end is obvious, and both parties know it.. she is trying to figure out Why?, why this person would need to be unfaithful- "Spelled out your name and list the reasons...I was distant, not insistent."
Pity Party! maybe if she cries and everyone feels sorry for her.. its the old adage that if you act desperate and abused its attractive to other people. maybe thats why she was cheated on? |

| Tegan and Sara – Relief Next to Me Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
"i promise this- i won't go my whole life telling you i don't need"
i think thats one of the most beautiful lines on this whole album.
in the song, she could be saying that consolation isn't really her strong point. because she is in the dark herself. she can't give relief to someone else when she can't even provide it for herself.
this lady i know, i think her names Oprah?, once told me that you can't "fix" others without first "fixing" yourself.. wise woman |

| Tegan and Sara – I Was Married Lyrics
|
did anyone mention that sara was referencing gay marriage when she wrote this song? oh, well, i think that's the proper meaning..
the beginning (I married in the sun, against the stone of buildings built before you and i were born) represents a 'fairytale wedding' type deal. the ancient buildings bit could also mean that love has existed forever and human muscle can try to suppress it, but its a frivolous effort. such forces are greater than we can really influence or understand. |
