no other comments on this song?! it's absolutely stunning, just like every other song off this album. The way i see it, this guy is really into this girl, but she won't commit for one reason or another. I personally see it as she's probably been hurt in the past and is reluctant to get into another relationship. ok so this is probably totally off but this song reminds me of my last relationship. we've been broken up for three months and things ended badly with us when he told me he loved me, but was blacked out and didn't remember it the next day. lame story, but whatever. at the time, he asked me to say it back to him and didn't really answer him "so when you ask, "do you love me?" i should reply, "yes most certainly" and it feels as if we've been apart for a long time "now three months equals eternity, and this will be so hard i will long to hold you in my arms" i wish there were things i could tell him "these words might be too little too late, and i am afraid that i have already lost you" so ya, i think its definitely about a break up |

I do think this song is about God, but it could be interpreted in many ways. I think one of them is of course a relationship. thats what i get out of it. you search and search for someone great and can feel so lost. but then you meet someone and when you're first getting to know them, they are constantly showing you what you've been looking for. "don't let go i've wanted this far too long mistakes become regrets i've learned to love abuse please show me what i'm looking for" you've wanted someone like this for so long and you wish you would have realized it in the past. instead, you made mistakes and were in bad relationships, so this person is showing you what you want and need I don't know, thats just how i can apply to my life right now :) |

so i've been listening to this song more and more and am completely addicted to it. In the begining when they sing, "never gonna go away," I think this is the voices inside the girl's head. It gets louder and louder until she can no longer ignore it. Also, people have been saying the part about satisfaction is the singer never being satisfied. Well, it's told from the singer's perspective and right before he says, "so what about you." I think he's illustrating that no matter what he does "mood is set and we're here by candel light," he can never fully convince her to have sex with him. So I'm pretty sure I've got the lyrics right. I think its more or less about this girl who is using the singer only when it's convevient for her, like when her boyfriend is not around. in response to ny1989's comment about silentist. Stephen didn't make that word up. I looked it up and from what I can gather, they seem like a religious organization. they let their actions speak for them rather than words. you're not allowed to say that you consider yourself a silentist, or speak of your choice as one. they greatly follow the motto "not words, but deeds." I think Anberlin's reference is that these kinds of people work tirelessly to help the world. they need help, but won't blatantly ask for it. This is just what i've gathered. I think this song is so versatile. I mean, it starts off with a creepy, high pitch voice, and flows into the first verse nice and slow. then, you're hit with this upbeat techno sound. From the part where he's singing "never gonna go away" to the "I do, I do..." its truly amazing. they jump all over the place, but its all intricately intertwined so you're never lost. I also agree with everyone's interpretations. Long story short: this boy will do anything for sex. including lying, faking emotion, and even forcing his way. very powerful song. Well done Emery! another brillant song! |

so this girl is devestated by her father's death and is using drugs as a coping mechanism and a way to escape her grief. her mother has put up with this because she knows this is hard on all of them. meanwhile, this girl is spending all her money on drugs and ends up stealing money from her mother. that's the final straw and she gets kicked out. the narrator of the song is trying to save and take care of her. He's trying to take her away from the party scene because she's one step away from O.D. I totally agree that everything in paranthesis is her response. Brillant! |

| I think the song Broken Lungs dealt more with our perspective of a tragedy, namely September 11th. The second track, The Sky Is Falling is another perspective during tragedy. I think its written from the perspective of an Iraqi while we were bombing them. I think these two songs show how this horrible event truly made a full circle and affected so many innocent people, on both sides. | |
