and it's also " I'm a promise in an unmailed letter " not " I'm a promise, and an unmailed letter ". And I Love this line in the song. |

| Yes, it is " sex without purity ". And, of course, that makes sense. And, no, it doesn't have to mean ' sex without marrige ", it means " sex without love", which would make it incomplete. | |

| I think it's about someone always telling him how amazing he is, yet failing to come to him. Always leaving him dry. Alone. Though they claim to love him so. So, yes, this would fit his frustration, or rather confusion/dissapointment, over not becoming popular, as well as this could also be about a lover, or a ponential lover... | |

Another thing I thought it could have meant, was a secret homosexual relationship between two women, in which one of them had an open heterosexual relationship. So basically one of them had a man. The song is sung from the point of view of the one who only has one mate. So her baby belongs to another. And her baby has been thinking of leaving her, just to be with that other. Now that i think of it, it doesn't necessarily have to be an open heterosexual relationship, either way, the baby is in a relationship whilst still having her fun on the side. .. |

I think that this song is about giving your child away for adoption, from the point of view of the one who is giving their baby away. Ok, well, this is pretty much how I have dechiphered it; a young girl who became pregnant, but was not able to keep her child...as much as it hurt her. And now she can never forget her, she always thinks of her. Watches her walk home ( from school ) --'Yesterday was another day, when I Saw your baby, walkin' home alone'. Possibly calling the house of residence just to hang up. --' I'm feelin' sorry, I called you but I, I guess that I forgot your name'. .. And this could possibly be a reference to the actual birth? --'But she's just like lightning, She goes right through you, Then you know you'll never Be the same'. Technically she is the childs parent, but legally the child now belongs to another. -- ' She's my baby, Ain't that something, But I know that she belongs to you, She belongs to you '. Shrug. Reread the lyrics with this thought in mind, maybe it will make sense to you as well. Plus, in the video, there is a glimps of a little girl holding a doll.... |
