| I'm not sure why everyone comments on here that the man speaking in this song is crazy. Sure, so he recited an Iron Maiden song and claimed it as his own poem. But if you actually listen to what he has to say before that, he makes perfect sense. America is indeed a third world country and unfortunately people are too stupid to recognize that. I hate to say it, but it's true. The judicial system is a crock, the police are mostly trained thugs, corporations are run by a bunch of greedy, self-serving cheats, and the government is made up of liars and thieves. Need proof? Take a look around you! When was the last time any of you picked up a newspaper? People are being forced into foreclosure on their homes by the thousands every day. Unemployment continues to rise, despite what the media says. As more businesses close every day, empty shops line the strip malls, to match with the empty parking lots because no one has any money to spend anyway. People are forced into low-wage service jobs like the fast food industry or worse... standing on some street corner in 100 degree weather, spinning a big dumb sign for some company that doesn't give a damn whether you die of a heat stroke or not. Police brutality and Taser fatalities are on the rise and have been for the past five years, as they continue to abuse their authority on mostly undeserving victims, like women, children, and the mentally retarded (no kidding, here, folks). All of the Barney Fife deputy types have been replaced with jack booted thugs who are ready to put a club to your head the minute you step out of line. Yeah, it's called a police state. Look it up. Government scandals are now a daily occurrence, and it's become nearly impossible to keep up with all of the stupid bills they pass, most of which aren't actually read before being voted on, and none of which benefit the actual citizens of this country. And what about health care? Well, all I can say is you'd better not ever get sick. Wake up, people! We are living in a third world country. And sadly, it's just going to get worse. | |

Thank you, Luckymuse, for sharing this with everyone! That is very well put. If one looks at the cover more closely, the symbolism becomes quite obvious (unfortunately, the CD art does not do it justice, so I recommend downloading a high-resolution jpeg from the internet). As far as this song goes, to me it feels like the center piece of the whole album, and a perfect summation of everything that Matt Bellemy has been alluding to in his lyrics, which is: "WE ARE BEING LIED TO AND MANIPULATED." What most of us believe about the world today is simply not true. We live in this "City of Delusion" where the news media feeds us lies everyday and we swallow it whole thinking it is the truth. Technology has advanced to a state that we are bombarded with messages everyday telling us to obey and consume. OBEY and CONSUME. We are told that these are our prime responsibilities. If we do not or can not follow these, we are not worthwhile and to be disposed with. Don't believe me? Just look at the advertisements in magazines, on television, on billboards. There is always something to buy, something to consume, and we are told we need it. And why do you think the news media focuses so much on the negative... on violence, on disasters, on scandals, on everyday crime? To get us to fear and obey! War, religious extremism, social injustice, suppression of knowledge, environmental destruction, economic collapse... these are all being set in place in order to bring the population of the world to their knees begging for their leaders to save them, not realizing who perpetrated the situation to begin with. By the time that happens it will be too late and we will have no choice but to obey. Anyone who does not submit to authority will not be tolerated. We will be living in a police state, with no rights, no freedom, and no reason to live. We will become slaves. You have to ask yourself, is this is what you want for your future or your children's future? We have to wake up. We have to open our eyes, and convince others to do the same. As for the fully loaded satellites, I encourage you to look up information on H.A.A.R.P., which is a government funded technology that is controversial for its potentially dangerous capabilities as both a weapon of destruction and mind control (also what Muse named their newest live DVD after). | |

There seems to be a lot of confusion over the "H8/height" lyric, so I did some research and found this from an interview with the band on the Muse fansite "www.microcuts.net" Q - "What does "H Eight" mean?" Mat t: Using a microcomputer (Hitachi H8 / 3048F) which can be built into the industrialmachines, you can learn and understand the inputs /outputs of the microcomputer as a basis of robot control and conduct theexperiments by C-language for steppingmotor control, servomotor control (PWM control) and serial communication. H8 model, a 16-bit microcomputer consists of 32-bit registers, has a flash ROM of 128KB, a RAM of 4KB (SRAM) with external extension of 128KB and 78 I/O terminals with the built-in A/D and D/Aconverters. H8 is a microcomputer usually built into a TV, VTR, mobile-phone and car navigator. Since it has ample I/O terminals, H8 microcomputer is also used as a brain of a small robot. Also, it's been mentioned that H8 is a supercomputer developed by NASA, so that's probably relevant to the song as well since it is, after all, titled "Space Dementia." In any case, it's likely that whoever was responsible for printing the lyrics to the song on the liner notes read "H Eight" and figured it to mean "height." I don't know this for a fact, of course, but it seems the most reasonable explanation for the mix-up. Anyway, hope this helps. |
