gator is prob. the closest to my interpretation. but here was what i read: "there's a tear in the fabric of your fav. dress, and i'm sneaking glances." i think this is ben sort of analyzing a girl. his attempt to look at what is inside her. the 'tear' is him being able to see the girl behind her mask, aka. 'her fav. dress.' therefore, he's sneaking glances. "looking for the patterns in static they start to make sense, the longer i'm at it." the more he realizes she's hidden behind her mask of her fav. dress, he's picking up the 'patterns in static'-which i read as picking up the pieces that show through the mask, more and more, and being able to start putting the pieces together of her true inner self. "ivory lines lead..." the ivory lines are the fake "route" if you will, that she misleads him into following. meaning she's misleading him as to who she is. he realizes she's been misleading him into thinking she's something she's not. he's following ivory lines(the person she wants him to think she is) instead of seeing her for who she truly is. "instincts are misleading, you shouldn't think what you're feeling. they don't tell you what, you know you should want." i might be stretching this one, but here's exactly what i thought: you shouldn't think what you're feeling- perhaps it's because im familiar with anxiety, but i interpreted this as you shouldn't worry or get stuck on (think about) how or what you're feeling. putting up a fake front (the mask-the ivory lined dress) and knowing that there are holes in it (that someone can see through that mask) she might be stuck on feeling saddened by not being her true self. getting her mind stuck on these thoughts can be saddening, and they do her know good as they don't push her to look outward & forward, but only inward & back. but it could be just a girl in a dress with a hole that he's lusting for. maybe ben has some background on the song somewhere online. |

| i think this song is about the need to explore on a journey by yourself and not attached to a love one. not saying that there's a lack of love, but you have to fully find yourself before you can come back and fully love anyone else. needing to find that something thats missing in life. | |

| to me, this song is about personal growth and internal struggles. and a personal need to find ones own place in the world, a journey of the soul and their meaning of life. this song is my own personal anthem at the moment. whether or not this song was written in with the intent that i am taking it in as, this song just reaches out to me to my core. he's put into words everything i feel ive been struggling thru in my own introverted world of trying to figure this life thing out and how others are reacting towards me because of this. the misunderstanding of my pulling away from social interaction. I LOVE THIS SONG! haha. | |
