| Paramore – Misery Business Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I'm in the business of misery, let's take it from the top (Misery= sadness, upset; Business=in this case striving to achieve a goal. Take it from the top=start from the beginning/The beginning of the story. I’m trying to ruin someone’s life, let me start from the beginning) She's got a body like an hourglass it's ticking like a clock (Hourglass shaped body. The “classically beautiful” type of girl? Curvy in the way appealing toward men? “Ticking like a clock”=clock=time. Running out of time? Waiting for somethimg to happen? She’s a slut and I can tell something’s going to happen) It's a matter of time before we all run out... (?) When I thought he was mine, she caught him by the mouth (“When I thought…”=He was almost my boyfriend/I had almost started dating him; “She caught…”=He took interest in the other girl. Let’s call her “slut”. He was almost my boyfriend, but then Slut began dating him) I waited eight long months She finally set him free (Speaks for itself: Eaight months=Period of time protagonist waited for them to break up) I told him I can't lie, he was the only one for me (After the break-up, she went to him and told him how she felt. She really loved him) Two weeks and we had caught on fire (After two weeks they’d got quite into each other) She's got it out for me, but I wear the biggest smile (Slut is angry at protagonist for “stealing” her man, but protagonist [Let’s call her “Heroine”] doesn’t care) Whoa... well I never meant to brag But I got him where I want him now (Heroine finally has him [lets call him “Man”]; Innocent sort of saying “I never meant to brag” but she can’t help it because she has Man) Whoa... it was never my intention to brag To steal it all away from you now (“To steal it…” Steal his love and Slut's rep.) But God does it feel so good 'Cause I got him where I want him now And if you could then you know you would 'Cause God it just feels so... It just feels so good (Basically, a lot of bragging) Second chances they don't ever matter, people never change (Second chances as in Man taking Slut back. People never change=was she rude/mean/annoying? That’s why they broke up?) Once a whore, you're nothing more, I'm sorry that'll never change (Whore? Maybe Slut cheated on Man) And about forgiveness, we're both supposed to, have exchanged (They should make-up and not be angry about Man, but Heroine is still holding a grudge at Slut for stealing Man when she almost had him, and Slut wants Man back. Fat chance at forgiveness…) I'm sorry honey, but I'm passing up, now look this way! (“I’m sorry honey”=sarcastic sweetness; Passing up forgiving her) Well there's a million other girls who do it just like you (Other girls who want to date Man) Looking as innocent as possible to get to who (flirting and acting cute but completely fake) They want and what they like, it's easy if you do it right (these girls get they're dates "cheap") Well I refuse, I refuse, I refuse! (i refuse to act fake, i'm real) Whoa... Well I never meant to brag But I got him where I want him now Whoa... it was never my intention to brag To steal it all away from you now But God does it feel so good 'Cause I got him where I want him right now And if you could then you know you would 'Cause God it just feels so... It just feels so good ... I watched his wildest dreams come true (i've known him longer than you i know him better) Not one of them involving you (obvious. Slut didnt matter to Man very much) Just watch my wildest dreams come true (finally, heroine dates Man) Not one of them involving ... Whoa, whatever makes you break But I got him where I want him now ... Whoa, whatever makes you break But I got him where I want him now Whoa... it was never my intention to brag To steal it all away from you now But God does it feel so good 'Cause I got him where I want him now And if you could then you know you would 'Cause God it just feels so... It just feels so good |

| Panic! at the Disco – I Constantly Thank God For Esteban Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Here's the song watered down with my interpretation: Give us our once-a-day amount of fake pain Musicians are selling fake messages I’m a trended movement revelation change, and you’ll see it If you’re going to play this music At least believe in what you’re saying Write lyrics you actually believe in In this part of the show we are favored with two examples of persona= the band and its audience We have the pessimistic band, not truly believing the words they write I don’t see much of a big emotional uprising The band writes the depressing lyrics and the audience reacts by, well, being emo And I for one won’t stand for this If the scene (scene as in bands/punks/that jazz) was a parish, you’d all be condemned, damned, shunned. Basically emo is a pretty pathetic genre to be. Basically, Panic! is being pretty harsh on hypocritical emo bands and their whiny stereotypical fans. |

I Constantly Thank God for Esteban –Panic! At the Disco From the suggestion my friend made (“Maybe it’s about Emo kids!”) I went and investigated the song’s lyrics, and found out she were probably right. Some parts of the song, though, I was not able to understand. I starred those (*). Also I don’t really get the title. Basically I love the message it’s sending. It’s true! Give us this day our daily dose of faux affliction, (Affliction=a state of pain, distress, or grief; misery/A cause of mental or bodily pain, as sickness, loss, calamity, or persecution; Faux= fake; Give us this day= “Give us this day our bread and forgive us our trespasses” –Prayer; Daily: Once a Day; Dose= Amount: Give us our once-a-day amount of fake pain/ Symbolism? No, basically a pretty blunt line.) Forgive our sins (Sins= bad doings) Forged at the pulpit with forked tongues selling faux sermons (Forged= Formed; Pulpit= Platform/ Raised structure/ usually used in churches; Forked Tongues= often associated with a demon; Selling= transferring to a consumer for some sort of profit; Faux= Fake; Sermons= religious preaching: Formed in the church because demons are selling fake religious preaching / Symbolism? Religious preaching/Any sort of message/ Sent by musicians? : Musicians are selling fake messages) Because I am a new wave gospel sharp, and you'll be thy witness (New wave= Movement, trend or vogue; Gospel= Christian revelation; Sharp= involving a sudden or abrupt change in direction or course/distinct or marked, as a contrast/merciless, caustic, or harsh/keen or eager/mentally acute; Be thy Witness= “and when the blood of Stephen thy witness was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting, and keeping the garments of them that slew him”—Bible/ “The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest witness of thyself; thy witness is not true”—Bible/ Witness= to see, hear, or know by personal presence and perception/ thy= your/possessive; be thy witness= religious pun: I’m a trended movement Christian revelation change, and you’ll see it) So gentlemen, if you are going to preach, (Pay attention to “If you’re GOING to preach” Emphasize on “going”/ Symbolism? If you’re going to play this music) For God sakes preach with conviction! (For God sakes= Slang term. Religious pun/conviction= a fixed or firm belief/ Symbolism? At least believe in what you’re saying!) Strike up the band! * Woah-ho! The conductor is beckoning * Come congregation; let's sing it like you mean it (Congregation= an assembly of persons brought together for common religious worship/Pay attention to “Sing it like you MEAN it” Congregation= Band. Write realistic lyrics) No. Don't you get it, don't you get it? Now don't you move. * Strike up the band! * Whoa-ho! the conductor is beckoning * Come congregation, let's sing it like you mean it (Congregation= an assembly of persons brought together for common religious worship/Pay attention to “Sing it like you MEAN it”) No. Don't you get it don't you get it? Now don't you move. * Just stay where I can see you. * Douse the lights! * We sure are in for a show tonight. * (Possibly sarcastic/pertaining to a concert?) In this little number we are graced by two displays of character, (Number= Part of a show; graced= favor or good will; Displays= examples; Character= persona: In this part of the show we are favored with two examples of persona/ Two displays= the band and its audience) We've got: the gunslinger extraordinarie, a walking contradiction; (Gunslinger= a person who acts in an aggressive and decisive manner, esp. in business or politics, as an investor who takes large risks in seeking large, quick gains; Extraordinarie= Expert; Walking Contradiction: Contradiction=assertion of the contrary or opposite; denial / hypocrite: We have: the aggressive business man, a hypocrite/ We have the pessimistic band, not truly believing the words they write) And I for one can see no blood (I for one= From MY opinion/ See no blood/ Symbolism? I don’t see much of a big emotional uprising) From the hearts and the wrists you allegedly slit (Allegedly= to assert without proof: The wrists you “supposedly” slit/ The hearts= Perhaps pertaining to “emo” music lyrics, often about lost love or some crap/ The wrists you allegedly slit= Cutting?: The band writes the depressing lyrics and the audience reacts by, well, being emo) And I for one won’t stand for this (Basically, it’s pretty fricking annoying) If the scene were a parish you'd all be condemned. (Scene=Music scene; Parish= an ecclesiastical district having its own church and member of the clergy/Ecclesiastical= of or pertaining to the church or the clergy; churchly; clerical; not secular; condemned= to express an unfavorable or adverse judgment on; indicate strong disapproval of; censure: If this case was a parish, you’d all be proven guilty/ Symbolism? If the scene (scene as in bands/punks/that jazz) was a parish, you’d all be condemned, damned, shunned. Basically emo is a pretty pathetic genre to be) Strike up the band! * Woah-ho! the conductor is beckoning* Come congregation, let's sing it like you mean it (Congregation= an assembly of persons brought together for common religious worship/Pay attention to “Sing it like you MEAN it” Congregation= Band. Write realistic lyrics) No. Don't you get it don't you get it? Now don't you...move. * Strike up the band! * Woah-ho the conductor is beckoning * Come congregation, let's sing it like you mean it * (Congregation= an assembly of persons brought together for common religious worship/Pay attention to “Sing it like you MEAN it” Congregation= Band. Write realistic lyrics) No. Don't you get it don't you get it? Now don't you, don't you...move. * Just stay where I can see you, * Douse the lights! * We sure are in for a show tonight! * (Possibly sarcastic/pertaining to a concert?) Just stay where I can see you, * Douse the lights! * We sure are in for a show tonight! * (Possibly sarcastic/pertaining to a concert?) Stay where I can see you, * Douse the lights! * La da ta ta la da ta ta la da ta ta.... (Does this NEED an explanation? Just Ryan being Ryan) Strike up the band! * Woah-ho! the conductor is beckoning* Come congregation, let's sing it like you mean it. (Congregation= an assembly of persons brought together for common religious worship/Pay attention to “Sing it like you MEAN it” Congregation= Band. Write realistic lyrics) No. Don't you get it don't you get it? Now don't you move... * Strike up the band! * Woah-ho! the conductor is beckoning* Come congregation, let's sing it like you mean it. | Fall Out Boy – I Slept with Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i have a theory this song actually might be about street-kid hustlers. i read a few days ago that there was a song that involved male prostitutes, and this interested me, so i decided to do my lyric homework, and decided it might be this... it's just a theory, don't attack me or anything! Find a safe place, brace yourself, bite your lip ("working" on the job, so to speak) I'm sending your fingernails and empty bottles you've sipped (empty bottles=alcohol? it would mak sense the "client" would be loaded) Back to your family cause I know you will be missed (either this is talking to the protagonist who might have been a runaway, it might be a sarcastic quote or serious. it might also be referring to whoever the client was, cheating behind his/her family behind their backs) They call kids like us vicious and carved out of stone (kind of obvious; people think they're hardened from being on the street) But for what we've become, we just feel more alone (another obvious lyric; they feel even more lonely and vulnerable living homeless) Always weigh what I've lost against what I left (not too sure how to describe this part, but it still fits) Progress report: I am missing you to death (the progress report could be making a pun at the fact that they're teenagers, but runaways, so they dropped out of school. i dont know about the "missing you to death" aprt though. Someone old (seeing the same kind of people over and over again) No one new (no one new who will care for them in their lives) Feeling borrowed (borrowed=having their body "used" so many times) always blue (always depressed from their lifestyle) Someone old No one new (same as before) Always borrowed Always you (not too sure about this either) |
