@[Marous91:813] The lyrics are sometimes cryptic, but they never seem to intend a pun, or an innuendo. Minor corrections: it's not "aufrechter Gang", but "sicherer Gang" it's not "unbekannte Welt", but " offene Welt" I can't see anything I don't trust my eyes anymore I can hardly believe it The feelings have turned I am to lazy to give up It would be too soon because there is always something. We were oathbound to each other We would have died for one another We bent the rain We borrowed faith We tried to turn in schuss drive Nothing was late but much was too soon We pushed one another through all tides We lost the plot and loved each other desperately We denied the truth as good as we could your existence was a piece of heaven (sky?) REFRAIN: You filled up each room with sunshine You turned all misgivings into its opposite Nordically noble, your gentle kindness our unbridled pride Life is not fair Danced the film in a silver room from a golden balcony marveled at the infinity Helplessly lost, drunk because there were no boundaries together in time lapse mid summer nights dream REFRAIN Your confident gait your true poems your fair dignity your unshakable fortune You defied your fate you never betrayed your plan of happiness I don't go anywhere I extended the deadline New time journey open territory I have you safe in my soul I carry you with me till the curtain falls I carry you with me till the curtain falls I can't see anything I don't trust my eyes anymore I can hardly believe it The feelings have turned I am to lazy to give up It would be too soon because there is always something. We were oathbound to each other We would have died for one another We bent the rain We borrowed faith We tried to turn in schuss drive Nothing was late but much was too soon We pushed one another through all tides We lost the plot and loved each other desperately We denied the truth as good as we could your existence was a piece of heaven (sky?) | Erratum: the song is in fact written for the sequel of the mentioned film - "In weiter Ferne, so nah". Thanks to Hans for the correction.! | |
| Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Cassiel's Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I wonder why no one has commented on this song yet - such a beautiful, deep song. It is clearly referring to the (equally wonderful) film "Wings of Desire", a film that revolves around an angel, Damiel, becoming a mortal for the love of a woman. Cassiel is Damiels closest friend, and it remains unclear whether he is giving up his immortality as well. What makes the song particularly remarkable is the fact that at the time, Caves songs were predominately sinister and gloomy, and only their sarcasm saved them from appearing kitschy to me. Cassiel's song is therefore even more remarkable, as in this song Cave unveils the lyrical side of his voice; I don't recall Cave being that compassionate (and therefore vulnerable) before. The end of the song is very comforting - recommended for dreadful moments. |
