Joanna Newsom – Cosmia Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is ridiculously gorgeous. I can't even begin to analyze it; that's the thing I love about Joanna's lyrics. I can't understand it at all, and I don't feel like I need to to enjoy her music. It's just...amazing.

I can't believe no one has commented on this yet. One of my favourites off of her new album...

I think this song is about unrequited love; the singer loves this person but the person isn't interested (and I wait with the plate, piled high with my love / that you won't eat from).

However, the singer isn't going to wait forever (love, you think you can contain me) even if it means being alone. The singer either isn't appreciated or has been harshly rejected by the person they love; they no longer see the point in waiting even though they love the person very much (there's no need to be so terrible/when you know I would do anything for you).

The line "this is so laughable whatever happened to / knowing that this was forever" implies that maybe they had had a relationship prior and it's being broken off, and that it wasn't a very clean breakup. (File off the sharpness of feelings so / I'll be protected from all of your evil).

Despite the pain that the singer is going through, he or she still loves this person. However, they know that love =/= slavery and abuse. They refuse to wait around for this person to "come round". They're leaving, and for good.

Such a loaded song...I find comfort in it though.

The White Stripes – St. Andrew (This Battle Is in the Air) Lyrics 18 years ago
To me, when I first heard this song, I thought it was about a war or something being fought in the air over where this girl lives, and she gets killed in the crossfire. It reminded me of my grandmother's story, from when she was a little girl in the first world war, counting all the war planes above her as they flew over her home.

Josh Groban – You Are Loved (Don't Give Up) Lyrics 18 years ago
The first time I heard this song I was in a horrible place and I felt really sad. I know it sounds silly, but when I heard it, I felt like everything just stopped. When I listen, it feels like he's singing to me, and I can pretend someone cares about me.

I mostly just see it as a friend / S.O. helping you out song. As someone saying, hey, I still care about you, and I'll help you out. But that's just my opinion.
