I can see both sides. And to me "we got the handshake under our tongues", doesn't necessarily have to refer to acid. I might be way off but it could be talking about the control the industry has over them being similar to the way a bit on a bridle controls a horse. The bit goes under the tongue, and when the reins when are pulled the horse follows. "The handshake" could represent the deal made in the process of making it big, and "under our tongue" could be representing the control that the label now has over them, steering them like the bit in a horse's mouth. I dunno, for some reason it just made sense to me haha. |

In my opinion "But I'm thinking of what Sarah said That love is watching someone die So who's going to watch you die" Are the bessssst lyrics of this entire song. And possibly a few others. But to me it means true love is something that won't quit. You know you truly love someone when you're willing to stay with them until the end through thick and thin. Instead of running away when they're dying, so that you don't get hurt, you stay by their side and tough it out. And so its asking, who's gonna be the person to do that for you? |

I can definitely see a lot of connection between the lyrics and the book. I mean couldn't "Wake the sun, so the stars can shine above what we define..." be talking about the fact that when you bring light to darkness things aren't quite as immense and terrifying as you thought? Like Navidson's second time into the hallway things didn't seem quite as terrifying just because of the fact that he had more knowledge about what he was exploring. and "can you still see..." etc. as a couple of people have mentioned probably refers to Navy's failing relationship with Karen and the WAIT WAIT WAIT, in my opinion obviously refers to the fact that Karen said she'd abandon Navy if he went into the Hallway. He wants her to wait, to stay with him. again, said by a couple others the "glass smile" is Karen's fake smile, the one that made her famous. She was a model after all. and then "Cut apart the words, forgetting everything, forever contradicting.." I dunno, I get the feeling this goes back to Johnny the fact that he's analyzing Zampano's book, "cutting" apart his words. While he does this he often forgets about reality. His mind cannot seperate his actual life from the dark visions that come from his imagination. "Forever contradicting". That's what I get from it. Or hey, I could be overanalyzing and this song could have nothing to actually do with the book and just have a cool quote from it as the title haha. It all depends on how you intrepret it. |

even though they're broken up, why not. i think it's referring to the (i think) greek myth of icarus who's father helped him make wings out of wax and feathers so that he could fly. his father warned him to not get too close to the sun, but of course icarus didn't listen and the wax melted and he fell to his death. so i think in a way it's comparing this "angel" of his to icarus because she's been given so much and she just kind of takes advantage of it. who knows, maybe that has nothing to do with it. |
