I think this is not necessarily about religion. I think it's about finding your own path, and that you should be judged on how you live. You might make mistakes when younger, but that you can always change your outlook and become a better person. It goes with the growth and evolving of HWM's music too. Songs like Rocksinger are very angry and full of hate, while this song is all about a calmer and more accepting outlook. It's a message to all those people who are negative about others for no actual reason, just for the sake of it and how being bitter and angry is ont the way to live, and only when you free yourself from the shackles of hatred can you really grow and be happy. |

Laurel, I don't think anything but the title causes a problem in understanding this to be about the Kursk. The families are not on the submarine, but above them on dry land. Drowned by her country is a reference to the slowness of action the Russians had in attempting a rescue. Your country incarnate idea is too fantastic (not in a positive sense) to be right. The air runs out is again fairly acurate with the Kursk, most of the sailors died from asphyxiation after a fire ate up most of the remaining oxygen on board. I think it's amazing that people can write songs that empathise so well with people and occurences of which they have no experience. I Hate Myself's Kamikaze is exactly the same. I'm so jealous! |

The verse is a guy asking his woman why they're not having sex, and asking whether it's because she's found another guy. The first chorus is about them going for what he thinks is a romantic evening, but getting drunk at the end of the night and eventually fighting over his jealousy. The second chorus is about him being so engrossed by his jealousy that it takes him over. He's asking her whether, if she found out he thinks she's cheating, whether she could forgive him. Then he leaves her, even though she has done nothing wrong and he's just made it all up in his mind. And he realises his mistake, in the last line of the song. |
