Cat Stevens – King of Trees Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is so sad. I think it's about a tree, and not just any tree...the king of trees and it was willy nilly chopped down to make a stupid road. This makes me sad because it happens all the time. We just don't see what is truly important.

Cat Stevens – Wild World Lyrics 18 years ago
I've always thought this song was sung by a man deeply in love with a girl younger than him at least in terms of experience. He has lost everything to her meaning he would give up anything and has for her. But she is young and innocent and naieve(sp?) and wants to explore the world maybe pursue an acting career or something. He is more experienced and understands that the world can be a dangerous place especially to the innocent and he wants to warn her. He loves her so much he is willing to let her go but it hurts him to think of what she will encounter. Then the next song, "Sad Lisa" seems to me to be her coming back a very broken person.

Cat Stevens – Sad Lisa Lyrics 18 years ago
I always thought of this song as the third in a trilogy on the album. First is "Hard headed Woman" where he is looking for the woman of his dreams; then is "Wild World" where it seems he has found her but now she wants to leave and explore the world outside and he is warning her and then this song, "Sad Lisa" where she returns a broken person. It is very sad. I was always drawn to this album because these songs seemed so connected.

Cat Stevens – Peace Train Lyrics 18 years ago
This song speaks to me of faith and hope. Good things are coming...in fact they are already here for those with eyes to see...it is on the edge of darkness right now but it is real and it is coming and it is good. We can look at the world as it is now but our hope is not in what we see but in what we don't see...the eternal.

Cat Stevens – Father And Son Lyrics 18 years ago
I always heard the word "war" at the end of when the son first sang. " I know I have to go....waaaar." Does anyone else hear that?
I always felt it to be the father not wanting to let go and see the son as an individual apart from him with his own thoughts and dreams and the son needing to break away to be his own self and the only way he can do it is to go to war...

Cat Stevens – Sitting Lyrics 18 years ago
I always say this song as a spiritual journey. The singer knows where he has been (death) and is moving toward life but has not quite found it yet but knows he is on his way. The waterside represents life, new birth and when he finds it, he'll let us know (drop us a note). I agree that the power growing in his hair is a reference to Sampson of the Bible. He has definitely turned his back on his past, and is making forward progress but still has alot of questions. He is frustrated with opening so many doors but they all seem to go nowhere but back where he started from.
The good news is God finds us.

Cat Stevens – Longer Boats Lyrics 18 years ago
I always thought of the book "Hawaii" when I heard this song. The longer boats were the white man coming to their islands. The parson was the religious "missionary" come to convert and takes advantage of the innocence of the young girls (Mary) or converts because they trust him.
"I don't want no god on my lawn" was always an adversion to religion and all it's outward forms while his wanting just a flower he can help along was his longing for the truth, the truly good.
I heard about the UFO thing but it just doesn't say that to me at all.

Cat Stevens – Jesus Lyrics 18 years ago
"in the evening his love will lead the blind
in every secret corner there in your mind"
As this world winds down (evening) or even as the individual's life winds down to death, his love (God/Jesus) will open our blind eyes, answer every question, open every door and truly free us in our minds.
Buddha, a man, was a seeker too just like us.

Cat Stevens – But I Might Die Tonight Lyrics 18 years ago
some people live in the here and now...everything we see around us...their meaning is in those things like their job, possessions, people they know etc. Some people feel there is more than that. Things that we don't "see" but are still none the less real. I think the singer feels that pull towards the unseen things.
