| The Olivia Tremor Control – Hilltop Procession Lyrics | 13 years ago |

One of the most beautiful and important songs in my life so far. From my take, it's about marveling the fact that we exist at all, by being mesmerized that we're free and conscious beings. Everything is and always will be unified with everything else (we know). We're all here and we all exist and right now is all we have. Life isn't perfect at all, and we're always left wanting something else, but holding a positive outlook because we're alive and able to enjoy and appreciate everything. Everything is a dream, enjoy it while you have it. |

They probably chose the word "Diamond ring" because it symbolizes something expensive and sounds a lot better than anything that Elliott actually spent his money on. The title is also interesting as they chose the word "chord" instead of "cord" to reference music and Elliott's way of using his songs to reach out to people. A rip cord, as you fine people know already, is something you pull to eject or get away from a situation which also seems very appropriate. |

| Elliott Smith – Watch the Worlds Collide (I Didn't Understand, early piano version) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The imagery in this song is incredible. Especially the last couple verses. I can picture the singer, talking about how people have a pretty side (and presumably an ugly side), looking at himself in the mirror, watching the good and the bad mesh into one being; himself. | |
| They Might Be Giants – Man, It's So Loud in Here Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I know what this song means. I am completely baked. So. I know this, I understand it better. LIke the first post, it's about a guy and his inability to vocalize his feelings. Everywhere he goes he finds excuses to back out of coming forward. The corner store, the airport, places people spend considerable amounts of time, become night clubs themselves, with their own "distractions". He pretends to forget, because that's the only excuse he can offer in the seconds he lost courage to actually say something. He's on the tip, but not able to make the jump. In the last verse of the song, it's revealed that he hesitates only because he is unable to love, maybe because of past relationships. He want's to tell this person his feelings, but he just can not do it. I can see the other meaning as well, the 80's music, how everyplace in america was a rave because they all played the same techno music, but I like the shy guy story, it's more warm and relatable. |
