| The Killers – Human Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| i was only telling everyone what was said in an interview with the killers. i didn't intend to insult dancers, haha. the song is based off of a hunter s. thompson quote (like i already said in the original post), and i believe he meant it in a more metaphorical sense, or a philosophical sense, as goharjan put it. i understand your take on the song, straightedgefecker...however, i'm prettyyy surree that the killers were trying to go for the metaphorical approach that h. s. thompson had used. | |
| Bright Eyes – Lover I Don't Have to Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| all about not wanting to feel the pain of losing love, in my opinion. but there is probably more to it all than that. | |
| Bright Eyes – Take It Easy (Love Nothing) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
this is by far my favorite bright eyes song and although i may have sort of outgrown listening to conor as frequently as i used to, i still listen to this song almost every day. to me it's about losing a love and being turned into stone or something because of this. after losing something you found to be so real and deep and seeing how it really didn't mean everything you thought it did you toughen yourself up so that you don't have to feel this pain again. "So I laid back down, wrapped myself up in the sheets And I must have looked like a ghost Because something frightened me And since then I've been so good at vanishing" -that (in my opinion) is him after the first shock, or realization, of the love he felt being a lie or not being real. he's been good at vanishing, as in he's been good at not feeling anymore making it easy for him to deal with relationships. "Now I do as I please, and I lie through my teeth Someone might get hurt, but it won't be me Should probably feel cheap, but I just feel free And a little bit empty" -i think that this is how you feel when you turn your heart into stone and build walls in order to avoid the pain you felt before. but as he said, it leaves you feeling sort of empty in the end because to be able to deal with the pain of relationships, you have to give up the good feeling of them too. "No, it isn't so hard to get close to me There'll be no arguments, we'll always agree And I'll try to be kind when I ask you to leave We'll both take it easy" -we'll both take it easy is basically not getting too close, ending anything you might feel before it really starts. |

| of Montreal – The Party's Crashing Us Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| "you fucked the suburbs out of me" ..i think that means she changed him. she made him who he is now and got him interested in things that are a big part of his life now. | |
| Sonic Youth – Green Light Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"a single green light, minute and faraway, that might have been the end of a dock." -The Great Gatsby if you've read The Great Gatsby then you see all of the connections and ties to it in this song: "I kneel before the green light of her singing crayon eyes" in the book the green light represented Gatsby's view of Daisy and how she was the gateway to all of his dreams about the happiness he had once felt with her. And then JT Eckleburge's eyes on the bill board represented God (or something ubiquitous) that watched over the Valley of Ashes and the moral decay of society due to the "American dream." "and then i kiss her stomach and it's then i realize her light is the night" Gatsby would stare at the green light on the end of Daisy's dock (her home) and one day Nick (the narrator) saw him doing this and reaching out his hand at the same time as if trying to reach for Daisy who was all the way across the lake. "i'm not blind" Daisy was very aware of her trophy wife position in life and once said (about having a baby girl) "I hope she'll be a fool--that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool... You see, I think everything's terrible anyhow... And I know. I've been everywhere and seen everything and done everything." "i believe in you" this could relate to what Nick commented about Gatsby's smile: "He smiled understandingly-much more than understandingly. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced--or seemed to face--the whole external world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself." "i see a green light i see a green light i see a green light" I see this relating to (because of the repetition) how Gatsby was set on the fact that Daisy was his means to an end for acheiving the "American Dream" (common theme in the book) and how he so badly wanted to feel the way he once did with her when he was young; "Can’t repeat the past?…Why of course you can!" -Gatsby |

| Joy Division – Dead Souls Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
this might not be what its about at all, but it is what i get from it... its like ian is talking about how he's haunted by his past. maybe not dead people, but the people he knew and wanted to leave behind him. "Someone take these dreams away That point me to another day " -- could be about something that he doesn't like to think about anymore, or wants to hide. "A duel of personalities That stretch all true realities" --could be about the person that people used to know, that he doesn't believe he is anymore. "When figures from the past stand tall And mocking voices ring the hall Imperialistic house of prayer Conquistadors who took their share " --this could about the people that keep bringing up his past that he so badly tries to forget and hide and pretend like never happened. "That keep calling me They keep calling me Keep on calling me They keep calling me" -- would, of course, be these people/things coming back to him no matter what. |

| this song is great, in every way. the instrumental parts are insane. | |
| The Killers – Andy, You're a Star Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i'm pretty sure this is about a high school obsession, sort of like a stalker because "on the match with the boys, you think you're alone" pushes it to that level. it seems like its more open to interpretation if its a straight girl or a gay/bi boy as the stalker. i don't really feel like this is about a fan obsessed with a star player, i think its more leaning to the high school side. from the line "Leave your legacy in gold on the plaques that line the hall" i feel like andy is obviously some sort of "jock." but the repeated line "hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah" makes me think it was a high school obsession because that could have been some sort of symbol of the stalkers ridicule, because they probably weren't able to talk to andy or hang out with him it leads you to think the stalker was probably unpopular whilst consumed with andy. |

| The Killers – Human Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| also the song's name is just "human" | |
| The Killers – Human Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
this song's chorus ("are we human, or are we dancer") was inspired by a hunter s. thompson quote; "america is raising a generation of dancers." by this he meant that we (americans) on do as we're taught and basically what is "average," i guess you could say...like dancers doing only the steps they've been taught and not changing them. the line "and sometimes i get nervous when i see an open door" is saying that he gets nervous/anxious when faced with a decision ("open door.") i think the rest is open to interpretation. |

| Modest Mouse – 3 Inch Horses, Two Faced Monsters Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
probably talking about arrogant people or arrogant people in his views. or maybe people who just don't think about things as in depth as he might. You said, "I hope you live forever" Don't you wish that on me You said, "Don't be clever" >this is what made me think that he's talking about arrogant people. |

| Joy Division – Atmosphere Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| him being suicidal and epileptic does not make these lyrics mean anything else. learn something. | |
| Joy Division – A Means To An End Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i feel like this is a friendship founding on the same thoughts, ideals, and feelings on life. but those change and when they do the friendship seems to slip away. both still have the same love for each other but they no longer share the bond that pulls them together. "i put my trust in you" is how, i think, this situation makes you feel towards the other person. you didn't think either of you would change or grow appart, but they are cause and effect and they both changed or more fully matured they're opionions and ideas, making them very different people. |

| Bright Eyes – Gold Mine Gutted Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
white lines, i assume are coke. and a bag you buy and divvy up it grass, i'm pretty sure. so this is refferring, probably, to a time in his life when he, and his friends, were using drugs. i feel like this is during high school. "We hurry to our death Well, I lagged behind So you got ahead," i'll assume thats about him losing one of his friends to the drugs they were taking. |

| Bright Eyes – Touch Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i think that this song is about love, or lust, being able to distract you from things that normally make you sad or a life that feels empty. it also intertwines something that most of the people have also commented, first love. i think that you're so naive during your first relationship that you feel that nothing will ever feel the same way, and it won't. |

| Bob Dylan – Oh, Sister Lyrics | 17 years ago |

"father" could be god. so sister could really mean any women. also "Time is an ocean but it ends at the shore. You may not see me tomorrow." is a perfect combination of words. |

| Xiu Xiu – Luber Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"you got your dreams they’re about the Birthday Party i’ve got my dreams whatever they used to be" he's talking about how he envy's whoever luber is because he has dreams for the future and he doesn't ever remember his dreams anymore. OR that's what i think. i just like that interpretation. |
|
| Xiu Xiu – I Luv the Valley OH! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i love how much emotion he puts into the one short "oh." and i think that he wants his family member to commit suicide because he loves them, and understands. he loves them enough to let them go. it's really beautiful. i envy how selfless he is. |
