| Yeasayer – Grizelda Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Interview with Chris Keating, source: http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/reverb/2010/04/qa_yeasayers_chris_keating_on.php I read that one of the songs on Odd Blood, "Grizelda," is about Griselda Blanco from the documentary Cocaine Cowboys. How do you take specific events and decide to turn them into your own music? We wanted to make a version of what we thought a pop record was, somewhat cheesy sentiment, somewhat direct, slightly bubblegum lyrics, and then also dealing with love, love songs, personal relationships. That kind of counteracts the electronic vibe. We began reading about Griselda Blanco and we rented that movie because we were intrigued by the idea of a female mass murderer, and the relationships she had with the people she worked with. They were all in love with her, and that kind of was an alternative version of a love song. " |

| Regina Spektor – Ink Stains (All the Holocaust Deniers) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is extremely emotional for me. After hearing Regina preform this live at the Beacon Theater I became obsessed and have listened to it repettively. As I prepare for my trip in a few days to Poland to visit the concentration camps and learn more about the autrocities of the Holocaust, I know that this song will be playing in the back of my mind. The idea that there are people in our modern culture who deny the Holocaust is absurd, and I love the way Regina explores this issue in this song. It's an extremely emotional subject and only Regina can present this new angle in such a poetic manner. | |

| This song reminds me so much of a friend of mine. she never has any opinions and always seems to agree with everything i say. it's annoying, i just wish i knew there was something underneath, but the cary thing is that i'm not surethere is anything :( | |
| Against Me! – The Ocean Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
for some reason this song reminds me of some of Against Me!'s previos songs. Most of these are politically driven. The first verse reminds me of consumerism Instead of just letting the ocean be, and be beautiful, it's, "Purified by the county, pumped through pipes and out faucets people feel the need to process it" the second verse reminds me of president bush. His wife's name if Laura, they have two children, and lived in Texas, which borders the gulf of mexico. In other songs about bush, he is portrayed negatively, but in this song Laura i portrayed peacefully and as an innocent bystander. This could be interpretted as Tom's feelings of George Bush the person, not th politician Tom doesn't like Bush's politics, but this shows that he can separate Bush the person with his wife and children from Bush the president Whatever it means, i like it! |
