I adore cake, this song especially. I always thought i was a love song, and for the listener who doesn't look ino these songs, it is. Tha's the hing about Cake, they have two meanings, he outside one and the real, inside one for us samrt people :D But yeah, the whole dishes rattlewhen the elephans arrive part is the arguments that come up because e feels his way and doesn't want to make a big commitment, and the whole ornaments on the tree is about how he dislikes the girl that puts on oo much makeup, oo many clothes, etc. (he ornaments look pretty (jewelry, clothing, make up) bu they're pulling down the branches of the tree (they make the girl less who she is, she worries too much about her appearence, she turns bitter, etc.) |

OOOH!!! I'm excited, I have an original idea no one has posted yet!!! Okay well, I've been lisening to this and Sick Shifts And Safety Belts since kindergarten with my parents who were grea Cake fans, and now in eighth grade i still love Cake, especially Love You Madly.
Anyhoo, my new idea is that (along with the whole idea of a girl who is different, knows what she wan, etc., etc., ((cake has multiple meanings in their songs))) the song is about growing up. Canging her name from Kitty(childish) to Karen(grown up) She wants a car that will get her there(she doesn' care as much about all the gadgets- she just needs a cup holder for her coffee) A voice that is dark, she's putting up her hair (more proffesional looking), and there's my bit. (I'll admit I stole it from my uncle and enlarged it.) But I do still like the descripion of the girl herself. (I've devoted myself to be like her :D) |

Number one, to the guy who just commented, let people decide for themseles what religion they want to join. You could offend someone. (I'm not in COS, I'm agnostic, but that could really offend someone.)
Number two, I love this song, especially the whole 'talking trash to the garbage around you', tha quote is jus so ingenius, I try to be cool and use it whenever I can, even if it makes no sense o any other eighh grader. (I really wish beck was more well known in my generation, it would be so awesome.) I also loved ha one Futurama episode with Beck as a geust star, he best Futurama episode EVER. (And from me, a Futurama addic, tha's saying a lot.) |

yeah, I see it as a metaphor of life, and it's talking to one person and several people at once- It's talking to the guy who's life sucks, but continues through his life and doesn't even consider suicide. It's not like he doesn't know what's happening, but he doesn't try to create new problems. It's also a message to everyone to be like this guy. One thing I love about Cake is their flexibiliy with mood. They go from angry Carbon Monoxide to depressed End of The Movie to happy Love You Madly(possibly my favorite song ever). |

I say yes to the whole more than one meaning thing- It is about pollution, and it's also about the whole position in society thing, and I always saw that it was talking about how frustrating it is that people can be so stupid and screw things up, but tha's just me. This song is a great thing to turn up really loud on your iPod when you're mad a someone. |

I really love this song, obviously, mostly for the tone of it, not the person singing it, but yeah. As much as like the whole idea of each verse being a different character, I don't think it is- I think the whole story is from a prostitute, maybe an underage prostitute, the childish dreams, etc. She is trying to find out who she is after getting really high- she finds her own phone number, but she doesn't know where she lives. When she does get there, she recieves a smile from the doorman that she as bought, warning her that she has been caught, probably by a drug dealer or the cops or the hotel itself. |
