Ministry – Golden Dawn Lyrics 18 years ago
Not sure what the overall meaning of the song is.

The Inquisition samples are all from Ken Russel's movie "The Devils", which should be seen only by the strong of stomach.

"Golden Dawn" is short for "The Hermetic Order of Golden Dawn", an early 20th century cult which split off from the Freemasons.

Two Gallants – Linger On Lyrics 18 years ago
What a song! Completely gorgeous. I catch myself looking at the cd player to see how much time is left, hoping it won't end soon.

I'm not sure, but I think the whole EP might be the story of a breakup. This would be the final song, after it's over. Most of it's fairly self-explanatory. He loved her and still does ("I keep your picture on the wall"), but is too much of a wanderer to stay. She tried to keep him, but it was doomed from the start. And he doesn't want to forget her ("linger on")

I know this story too well. Happened with every girl I've loved.

The Beatles – We Can Work It Out Lyrics 18 years ago
To me it's 100% obvious that this song is about growing differences between Paul and John. (So I agree with DOGbreath, Uncommon & born to run.)

I'm fairly certain that each wrote the part they sing, since the words totally match their personalities. Paul (the controller) has the parts that start "Try to see it my way...". John (the rebel) has the parts that start with "Life is very short..." Really the lyrics should have spaces between these parts, since they are so distinctly different.

The reason I feel so certain is that it exactly describes my bro (Paul-like) vs me (John-like). So I know this dynamic close up. Ain't pretty.

Two Gallants – Waves of Grain Lyrics 18 years ago
Mostly agree with passive_aggression, Bellyfull of Swans, kill-in-tons, soldios. But I can't see how it's so specific! Bush/Native Americans may be involved, but this is a bird's eye view. You know, Bush isn't the first PoS leader we've had, and he won't be the last. The song seems more about long-term corruption of "America The Beautiful" (as quoted in the title) into the current fear-mongering control-freak leadership we have today.

Here's my take.

In the 1990's I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area (Pleasanton). It was depressing to see farmlands relentlessly mowed down and replaced by ugly housing developments. One day I had a horrible epiphany: it was STILL farmland, except the crop wasn't vegs/cattle any more, it was humans. Same principle. Organize them into efficient little rows, give them their minimal needs, let them grow, and reap the produce. Can't slaughter humans (yet), but there's plenty of profit in sales, taxes, insurance, forclosure, etc. Probably more profitable than planting grain.

OK, back to this song. I wonder if they're thinking what I was: the "waves of grain" are becoming "tract housing", raised not on fertilizer but "panic and fear", "pre-plucked and pre-paved". Just crops to be reaped. Just look:

>> "Your progeny's brave, their tract houses waiting, pre-plucked and pre-paved"

Yikes this one is longer than I intended.

Primus – Mr. Krinkle Lyrics 18 years ago
The name "Henry Krinkle" comes from the movie "Taxi Driver". Travis Bickle (the DeNiro character) gives that name to a Secret Service guy because he doesn't want to give his real name.

I can't see any other references to Taxi Driver in the lyrics. It seems to be addressed to the Faith No More guy, maybe making fun of him for following musical trends too much. Maybe Mike Bordin got the name from Taxi Driver, and Les Claypool got it from Mike Bordin.
