Roxy Music – Mother of Pearl Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm gonna have to agree with simonevans on this one. I'm pretty sure just about every song and/or art form can be traced back down to drugs, and there are no doubt alot of metaphoric phrases that give this song two seperate meanings, which I think may be to confuse listeners and possibly seperate the shallow from the deep. Which meaning is shallow and which is deep is totally up to the listener.

But yes, in my humble opinion I am very much under the impression that the bulk og this song is about the after math of a party. It starts off about the party lifestyle- booze, drugs, random hook ups, whatever. And then he goes on to describe the aftermath; coming home late, intoxicated, mellowed, and contemplating life and the fact that he may have fallen for one of the random hookups (or possibly that he's just totally in love with the lifestyle). It's about loving someone or something for what it is, no matter how f***ed up.

Oasis – Wonderwall Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm so sick of these stupid comments, talking about nothing but The Beatles vs. Oasis. Firstly, ofcourse Oasis arn't greater than the Beatles. The Beatles created Brit Pop, Oasis are merely following in their footsteps. Without The Beatles there would be no Oasis (and I don't even like The Beatles! Sodding John Lennon.) Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. How about asking a entire english speaking nation on the subject, most kids these days don't even know Oasis other than "wonderwall". The Beatles have lasted since the 60's and are still one of the most famed and prided bands, Oasis are slipping and I garuntee you they'll be near forgotten in another 40 years.
And, for the record, Oasis claimed to be bigger than The Beatls, The Beatles claimed to be bigger than jesus, i'd say the band greater than the massiah is bigger than the band greater than their influence.

Dire Straits – Romeo And Juliet Lyrics 16 years ago
I think people are getting too deeply involved in the line "It was just that the time was wrong". It's not about time, it's not about a madly inlove couple who had to break up because of "timing". Listen to the rest of the words, and the tone in the phrases. It's about a guy who's trying to woo a girl who shows no interest in him. It's casual, but he is persistant and she knows she feel ssomething for him, despite playing opposites. The couple obviously have history, but whatever break they had has nothing to do with timing. He is reminding her of how special they were, and by the looks of it he's succeeding in his quest.

Walter Egan – Magnet And Steel Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is obviously about love. Great score there, Einstein. But what kind of Love?
The lines "it takes some time for feelings to grow" Suggests a long awaited love, Perhaps a frienship that tuns into something more? Or a long romance that has only just become serious?
Either way, the song is clearly stating a deep affection and uncontrolable urge to be with that certain someone. This love is different to others, more real, a serious love.
Wait a second... this sounds exactly like my love life! The same love life that has me roaring drunk at this very moment, trying to forget my depression and hurt he brings every time we kiss. Damn him!

Sandy Rogers – Fool For Love Lyrics 17 years ago
Um... though i like to keep an open mind to song interpretations, i have no idea what ceshernandez was smoking at thge time she listened to this song.
It is obviouslty about a guy who happens to be a hopless romantic (i can relate) and commits suicide (as i assumer from the line 'last time i saw him alive') after his childhood girlfriend marrys someone else.
It's sad, but somehow i like the kind of sadness it brings. It makes you feel compasion and empathy for somone you've never even met...

Billie Holiday – Strange Fruit Lyrics 17 years ago
to correct SLYcraft, the man who wrote it was white, but he was also jewish, which left him vaulnerable to the lynching too, especially since groups like the Ku Klux Klan where such a threat. it was a brave move on both there parts (his and billies)
the sad thing was, it was an everyday sight to see a rotting corpse hanging from the tree's in an otherwise perfect southern scenery. the song is eerie and although i pitty the way aafrican americans were treated back then, it doesn't make me feel sad or sorry or sick, i love the song, i love the way it is sung, i love the subject, and i love the thought.

The Radio Dept. – Pulling Our Weight Lyrics 18 years ago
A truly wonderful song. To be honest, the lyrics don't really do it for me, it's the beat. the guitar riff the starts off the song, that eerie late 90's indie vibe. It's kind of sad, but in a very sweet way. Just by listening to the song it's about great memories, and even if they're (Radio Dept. listeners of the song) are sad thinking about how great things used to be, there is a certain amount of hope for the future, and your glad for the happy times, even if they arn't there anymore...

Chris Isaak – Wicked Game Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is obviously about the games people play. When we fall for to prevent ourselfs from feeling vaulnerable we play little games, like he calls you a week late so you return his call 2 weeks later. but when we actually fall for somone and they keep playing around with you and messing you around, thats when it all becomes so sexy. you hate her for hurting you, but still just can't keep away. it's so true, i just need to let go of my little wicked games...

The Cure – Pictures of You Lyrics 18 years ago
the girl that robert smith describes reminds me so much of myself. after having my heart ripped out by another i have now toughened up, letting no one get close, "love doesn;t exist, lust is all i feel" thats what i always say to prevent others from trying to hurt me, but secretly i want so desperatly to be loved. i wish someone would sing that song to me...

The Cure – Lullaby Lyrics 18 years ago
i'm not exactly sure what the lyrics mean to me. to be honest, the artists intention really mean nothing, it's what the lyrics mean to YOU that really matter. this song seduces me, "Be still be calm be quiet now my precious boy
Don't struggle like that or I will only love you more
For it's much too late to get away or turn on the light
The spiderman is having you for dinner tonight" it sends shivers up my spine. what eerie creatures watch you when your asleep??

The Cure – Lovesong Lyrics 18 years ago
this song is just soo great i can;t sem to stop saying it!! the tune is so eerie and mysterious, not exactly depressing and definatly not sad, it makes me happy. when i'm at my lowest and feeling so frustrated, i just lay on my bed and close my eyes to this song. it relaxes, to hope that someday someone may feel this was about myself. "whatever words i say" as in this person can make you so angry and emotional, but you will always love them.

The Cure – Lovesong Lyrics 18 years ago
this song is my fave cure song. at the risk of sounding depressing, i like the cures more darker songs than the up beat ones. i love how they make you feel - happy in your sadest. robert smith claims that this song was written to his wife on their wedding. the lyrics are so true, "however far away i will always love you however long i stay i will always love you whatever words i say i will always love you" thats the way that love is supposed to be. i hear alot of love songs that speak complete bullocks, but this is the only true song i've heard that it dead true about love (that and lola by the kinks, which is actually about a transvestite)

The Cure – The Lovecats Lyrics 18 years ago
robert smith is so wonderfully new wave, but i'm sick of people carpping all over him today, all i ever hear is "he was so hot, and now his fat and ugly" what kind of fans are you? c'mon, it's robert fucking smith! his always had an unconventional style, he was sexy in the 80's and his sexy now. a great way to lose your virginity

The Cure – Close to Me Lyrics 18 years ago
the cure is without a doubt one of the greatest brit new wave alt bands of the 80's. they have a way of making there songs sound so eerie and kind of gothic, but happy in a sad way.
my take on the lyrics are completely wrong, but this song reminds me of a certain event... going to a party that you wern't really looking forward to, then you get there and are being tortured by a beautiful guy at the other end of the room. you know nothing can happen, his one of your best friends, but just for the night you have to give in to temptation. i'm not sure why, maybe it's the 'see in the dark' part that gets me, but i just love this song!

Maria McKee – If Love Is a Red Dress (Hang Me in Rags) Lyrics 18 years ago
i first heard this song on the pulp fiction soundtrack and have been inlove with it ever since. it's so very cowpunk - eerie with a western vibe and distorted...
the lyrics describe love that has turned sour, a broken romance (as said by ocean soul)
the entire song is spoken in medaphores, for instance "once we were hungry and now we are full" translates to "i've had enough of this romance but i can't break away" my faveourite line is without a doubt "oh well, there goes my fairy tale, lord aint it a shame in all this compfort i can't take the strain" that line captured the way i felt earlier on this year, and it has haunted me ever since...
check out lone justice, it's her band, gotta love it

The Kinks – Lola Lyrics 18 years ago
this song is both sweet and sad in a way, it's about a seriously naive guy thats just moved out of home and finds himself inlove with the women of his dreams. it's no until later that night "i pushed her away, i head for the door, i fell to the floor..." that he finds she is a he. he later learns to accept itand loves her just the way she is, even if his new girlfrien has some extra something downstairs "well i'm not the worlds most masculin man but i know what i am and i'm glad i'm a man and so is lola". alot of people are saying that this song is 'funny' or 'amusing' but i think it's sweet. todays society doesn't take guys or transvestites seriously, but as a joke.
