| Kid Cudi – Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare) (feat. MGMT & Ratatat) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Wow to the above. Both are good interpretations but they are probably one in the same. For each is an addiction that never is fulfilled. Key lines: I'm in the pursuit of happiness. Everything that shines aint always going to be gold. Obviously goes with the first fogged's reply. And the key is "Tell me what you know about dreamin', dreamin' You don't really know about nothin', nothin'" Beautiful. The worst part is what you average idiot will conclude from this song, though. |

| Mumford & Sons – Little Lion Man Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Pretty sure I have this song down packed. Weep for yourself, my man You'll never be what is in your heart Weep little lion man You're not as brave as you were at the start Rate yourself and rape yourself Take all the courage you have left Wasted on fixing all the problems That you made in your own head This verse I don't think he's talkign about a relationship with a person other than one with himself. That's apparent when he says "rate yourself and rape yourself take all the courage you have left" He's talking about how people judge themselves on how they're "supposed to be" and, in the process, rape themselves for their worth. They tear down their confidence and "courage" by doing so. I think this comes down to accepting yourself for who you are and seeing that you are beautiful in that. The way you were made. And he talks about how we waste our days fixing these problems we had that we created ourselves by allowing some universal, ever changing, "acceptable image" to tell us who we should be. You can imagine it like copying a picture to the left on a piece of paper to the right. And going back and forth and referencing. It's all a waste in the end. We could be so much and do so much more with our time if we'd stop such a shallow way of living. And the chorus. This is where I become more uncertain, but I"m thinking he's saying by being a judgemental person and holding himself to those standards actually pressure people to waste their days "fixing themselves". And in doing that it was the "victims's" heart that was sold short. But really neither are excluded from the predicament. I have to go but I'll skip alot because the second verse seems like a rant about vain things. And he goes to the end and he says to "learn from your mother" Possibly things in nature which really are naive to pointless things and spend their lives providing for themselves. "Or spend your days biting your own neck" I think he means instead of living for something fulfilling, you live off of the vain things that you've built your image around. You essentially feed off of yourself...something grossly unimportant. This is a beautiful band, man. |

| Arcade Fire – My Body Is a Cage Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Agreed, I believe this is really about his apprehensions which stem from his weaker emotions. I think he speaks a lot about how his body is weak and has doubt, yet his spirit is stronger. He just needs to use the higher power in him to overcome his petty mortal fears. "In an age where dark light" or whatever. Right there kind of seals it. Anyone that's spiritually motivated would speak like he is in this song. And it is a great song. |

| Awolnation – Sail Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Wow, man. I've never met anyone else that felt apart of others because of ADD. I do. lol I'm one lost individual. I just liked the way this song sounded and to find out it could be about THAT. Heh, I'll have to listen closely from now on before I read the lyrics. Thought I was alone in this. Song is aesthetically brilliant. | |
| Lupe Fiasco – Never Lies Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I think he's talking about people who think inside the box. The people who believe what they're taught...what they're told. What we're told in the world is that we go to war for terrorism, Lupe believes we go for oil. We're taught columbus was a great man. I'm sure Lupe knows Columbus was a fucking scum bag dirt bag heartless greedy piece of shit with a vision built from sheer ignorance and an idea. But we celebrate him. We're taught he found America and we make light of 250k Indians killed and enslaved. I can go on and on and on and on. But the fact is, the normal people "in the box" who think "in the box" and learn "in the box" believes the half truths and propaganda we're fed. And Lupe chains himself to the box to try and figure out a way to free other people. But he starts to enjoy what the people in the box enjoy. How they have happiness in life through ignorance. Even if he knows, he likes to have fun even more. Kind of like how he listened to hip hop although he "despised it". I havn't read every part of this song but from what I've heard and the first 2 verses I've read, it maintains my said path. On short time though. God damn...such a great song and 9 comments. Damn where was in in 07. Fuck. |

| Lupe Fiasco – Hurt Me Soul Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
The sheer ignorance of the listeners makes me feel incredibly hopeless. Lupe has such a strong message and I'm afraid that, from what I can see here, his message is being missed. Lupe was raised by a black panther in a structured home. He sees the world for what it is. He's sort of taken a step back and understands the intricacies of societies and the effects of what people do. It all intertwines with the popular saying "jedi mind tricks". For example, he says "My master beats me" He's basically saying that the mentality of our people is the mentality of a slave. It's something that has transcended through black history, and although we're no longer slaves, we continue to have that mentality and therefore it still is and we still pretty much are. So when a whore gets beat by a pimp, she's being beaten by her master. I don't know, maybe he doesn't mean it so metaphorically, but he commonly talks about how our past experiences directly affects us today. |

| The Postal Service – The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I dunno, the song talks to me differently. I'm currently living with my EX GF b/c I have to. She's keeping the place but I can't just go right now. She invites friends over, and it's clear to all of them that I'm not permanent. I'm just here because I have to be. It may not be what he wrote about, but fuck it fits so well. Song is amazing. | |
| Silversun Pickups – It's Nice to Know You Work Alone Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Eh why do I have the feeling he says instead of "and the air is wrong, wrong" he says, "All you hear is roar, rooar." The roar of the water. |

I'm guessing it is about the break up scenario. Watermarks on a pillowcase. Someone was crying. They are so abstract, they have a lot of current event roots, but no one talks about government 24/7. Except rage against the machine. <3 |

"trade in your history for a vcr" means that people no longer look for the true meaning of what has happened in past history. They'd rather take the word of some random producer/film writers perverted word of what had happened. He reffered to what the Amistad (a movie about slaves) was, and he said that the amistad wasn't a ship, as it was depicted in the movie, but a whip. What ever that means, I don't know. Oh and "the truth feathered and tarred" means that they make a mokery out of the truth until you feel silly for believing the truth rather than what they said. To At the drive in. Yeah they made money off of what they did. But no matter how much you hate the system, in order to live comfortably, you need to give in to it. Not everyone wants to live in rags like Mother Tereasa. Yeah, she made an example, but you only get one life. At least live it well, even if you must give into the globilized capitalistic world we live in while it makes you sick. I get your point, but I understand them accepting payment to make a comfortable living. Their message gets out to who it needs to and it makes you understand and not forget to look around at what you live in. If there ever is a revolution in the world, the troops would be inspired by this music right here. So give resepct where it's due. Post Reply ^^ lol at the above. My fav line by them. |

| Eminem – Same Song and Dance Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think it's about addiction. It gets you when you're vulnerable and you don't really think you have anyone to turn to. Then you're trapped with it. Maybe leading to suicide? The rapist thing I think is just playing from the drugs point of view and it has them doing all kind of crazy things. |
|
| John Mayer – Belief Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
The entire meaning of the song can be found in the last few lines. He's just saying we're all fighting for what we believe in. And the rest is saying no one will win because we're fighting for what we believe(when coupled with the last line). He just makes an excellent point that no one looks at in the light that he does. The war isn't about terrorism anyway. If you leave them alone and stop trying to force middle eastern governments to be moldable like play dough, you'll never have another suicide bombing in the west. The idiots who die in war are dying for nothing but capitalism and it's a shame. Like was said in a bond movie, "One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" Think about it. |

What does the Amistad was a whip mean? That little bit about history being replaced by a VCR and feather and tarring the truth is serious genius and awareness. |

| Coldplay – Lost+ (feat. Jay-Z) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Parablade, I disagree. Even with it being acceptable as an opinion. The things Jay-Z says are 110% true in a way that hardly anyone thinks. He clearly makes you see the situation through his eyes in a light that many people most likely do not see. In that is art, and he did well as an artist. I'm a fan of rap and I'm a fan of rock. As someone who has 0 discrimination in genres and sees music as an art and nothing else, I can say with no cloud of judgment his verse is very commendable. I do not know if it's some sort of territorial pride, ignorance, or just a lack of common respect that blinds you. Either way, it's not my loss. You may disagree if you want, but I'm sure that I'm right indubitably. Ignorance is bliss and you are entitled to your opinion. And I'm entitled to tell you you're wrong. |

| Matthew Good – Black Helicopter Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Wow, now that you guys shed some light on the whole thing, I understand most of it as clear as day. This song is pretty deep. "You're going to take what you can get//Food Aid rock and roll, absolution for your head" Loved this songs sound before. Love it even more now. :p TY |

| Coldplay – Lost+ (feat. Jay-Z) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I fail to see what is so bad about this? I understand rap and rock are two very different entities, but Jay-Z did not negetively affect this song at all. His verse is excellent and it goes well with everything else. I fail to see how including one of the best rappers alive in a song would degrade the music when it's an actual contribution. You should consider pulling your head out of everyone elses ass and try to take a look for yourself. Jay-Z delivered a powerful verse and you're so complacent in your ignorance you can't even see it. The only person you cheat is yourself though. Have a nice life w/ that outlook. |

| Usher – Moving Mountains Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I actually had to log in which I hate doing to comment. This song basically implies that he cheated. He offered to just end it. And she said no we'll work through it. But the problem is that it had put a space b/t them inside and he's trying to get back to where they were emotionally...together basically. But there's like an invisible mountain b/t them blocking what they had and he can't get back to it no matter how hard he tries. And when no matter how hard he tries to make it good there's a fight that gets them back to where they started. That's the hurricane that washes what he felt was progress away. |

| Linkin Park – In The End Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I always thought it was about a guy who singing about a girl. And all the time that he wasted in a relationship. And now that it's over he's reflecting on all the time that was chipped away. And thinking about how it wasted and it was all for nothing. Then again i think every song is about a girl. :p | |
| Brand New – The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Best interpretation: by rb on 05-17-2004 @ 02:39:16 PM emericanskater: sure. the very title of the song implies that it has to do with an event that should be kept secret. the first verse discusses an illicit encounter between two lovers, and is addressed to the woman with whom the man is having an affair. the word 'tryst' usually connotes a secretive meeting between lovers, and the lines following it 'neither clear nor descript,' 'kept it safe and slow,' 'no one ever knows' show that the two lovers tried desperately to hide this meeting. the second verse is addressed to the man's wife, and it describes a bleak wedding, implying that the marriage of the two was doomed from the start, leading him to seek satisfaction with another woman--the one involved in the tryst of the first verse. as for the line about children, parents about to divorce often make it a point to tell their children that the breakup is not their fault; this line makes reference to that commonly heard phrase by inverting it, saying that the couple are so confused about this sudden breakup that they desperately need a scapegoat, illustrating what a mess this affair has caused. the chorus is about the affair being discovered. 'keep the blood in your head and keep your feet on the ground' is a plea for all parties involved to stay calm. the next two lines explain that he has grown tired of the marriage and so sought affection elsewhere. however, in the aftermath of his wife finding out, he begins to regret his decision. 'my body in bed' refers not to his own body, but to his wife's; 'all for an empty hotel' reveals that he has been kicked out of the house and is now sleeping alone. the final line, 'wasting words on lowercases and capitals,' implies that he's writing a letter of some kind, but can't find the right words to express his feelings. perhaps this is an apology, or perhaps being found out has driven him to suicide. the final refrain, 'i lie for only you' is addressed once more to the woman with whom he had been having the affair. 'i lie well' and the half-mumbled 'hallelujah' sarcastically note that he wasn't as good a liar as he believed he was, and his life has been thrown into turmoil because of it. ----------------------------------------------- Although I beg to differ on the i lie for you, only you... Because he said at one point "by then it's you i could do without." Meaning he can do without the gf/wife, but he gets married obviously for her, regardless. So he is saying, "I lie for you, only you"...like, yea I lied but it was for you. I think the i lie well was just saying he kept it going for so long and all he's just saying I guess I was good at it. Hallelujah is just like "A men." A men is like an expression relief in agreement. Like you are putting my thoughts into words. And he's relieved, like FINALLY it's been said and, oh, it's so true. But he does regret it. This situation is extremely difficult. I'm in this situation now. I'm going down the same path as him and I listened to this song for years now. And it's like I looked into the lyrics just at the right time. This song is so fucking deep, if you experienced it, that it's amazing. It put my situation in perspective and is making me think now. It's so hard and you can't imagine and this song just says it all...The emotion everything. I hope you guys appreciate what brand new does, this is a whole new lvl of greatness. |

I think it's about not following other peoples footsteps and what's expected of people. I see flaws in my interpretation, but it's what it seems to me. This song is awsome, though. Love how he sings for the chorus, but is there any other music by them? I doubt that it's a coincidence that this song was their only song on guitar hero and is the only song people have seem to heard from them. So who are they and do they even have other songs? |

| Killswitch Engage – The Arms of Sorrow Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song is definitely worth more than 11 comments. I believe the meaning of this song can be deciphered in the beginning. So what it means to me: Imprisoned, inside this mind//Hiding behind the empty smiles: Well he's obviously in a situation that he doesn't like. It makes him depressed, but he keeps pushing on with a fake smile. Making everything look fine...like nothing bothers him. This is the "thesis" of the song I believe. So simple, the anguish, As it mocks me Crawling back into the dark: The pain he feels is brought on so simply, and it feels like it's taunting him as he CRAWLS into the dark. So he's obviously defeated. Running, always running, into the distance Stop me before I bleed, again: He runs into the vast darkness still alone, and he just wants it to stop before it hurts him to the point of feeling physically harmed. Where's he's been before. The echos of my voice, Follow me down\\The shadows I cast, Follow me down: ANd everything follows him down in his depression. It's almost egging him on deeper down. Darkness... lonliness... anguish. It taunts him, mocks him. It seems I've taken a dark interpretation of this song. But tbh, I've been in a depressed state of mind lately, and this song relates to me very well. I believe the melody and sound sets the mood and that's the atmosphere it creates. So yah... |

| Weezer – My Name Is Jonas Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think I have it down to the line. Great song, makes you think and they relate to how you feel if you know what they've been through. "My name is Jonas I'm carrying the wheel Thanks for all you've shown us But this is how we feel" So he's Jonas. W/E nice name. He's carrying the wheel that's flat (we learn later) He's probably insinuating that he's back home because he can't go farther with this flat that is his life. He's probably talking to his family and is saying, "sorry but this is how I feel" "Come sit next to me Pour yourself some tea Just like grandma made When we couldn't find sleep Things were better then Once but never again We've all left the den Let me tell you 'bout it... Reminisces of past days that obviously make him feel good and he knows it can't happen again. Typical realization of growing up and tells his family he's going to say how it's been. "The choo-choo train left right on time A ticket cost only your mind The driver said "Hey man, we go all the way," Of course we were willing to pay..." He left when he grew up (probably 18, right on time) The ticket is his secure warm home. He goes out into the world. Scary, hard, stressful. He was told that they go "all the way" but he didn't care he was 18 and ready to go. "My name is Wepeel Gotta box full of your toys They're fresh out of batteries But they're still makin' noise, makin' noise Tell me what to do Now the tank is dry Now this wheel is flat..." Wepeel? Dunno maybe referring to another person in his situation. I don't think so though. He has a box of new toys. Maybe a house and car and stuff but nothing to run them with. But he's managing to get something out of them. (maybe jsut getting by?...making noise) Here we learn his tire is flat. Can't go any farther or doesn't want to. "And you know what else? Guess what I received In the mail today Words of deep concern From my little brother The building's not goin' as he planned The foreman has injured his hand The dozer will not clear a path The driver swears he learned his math The workers are going home...." Maybe his brother moved with friends. It's not going as they planned, it's harder than they expected. Everyone has an excuse. And the workers (the brother and friends) are going home. Same deal. Or the end can refer to just the daily life sucks you go to work live with it. Go home? I mean I can understand it but I can't explain that approach. I believe that he kind of blames his parents when he says "thanks for all you've shone us, but this is how I feel" translate to Thanks for teaching me your best, but it obviously wasn't enough, |
