It isn't referring to the Harper Lee novel, and the novel has a rape in it, but that's not really the focus of it. The line in the song is probably more connected to the lullaby "Hush, Little Baby" (daddy's gonna buy you a mockingbird...) The daughter in the song IS being exploited and is compared to the mockingbird in the lullaby, though. |

^Being vague in interpretations is good. This song could honestly apply to any addiction, I guess. The parents comparison is REALLY interesting. This song does, as howzitgoing2end said, make the most sense when talking about smoking, but it can really be spun around anything. Right now, to me, it's about a girlfriend. |

Any help would be appreciated on this one, obviously. Liz Harris, whatever the hell you're saying with that lazy and beautiful voice won't remain a mystery forever! |

Beautiful song that, I'm guessing, is probably derived from funeral dirges. Its heavy with a dragging drumbeat and mournful brass and mumbling singing. |

Seems simple enough. He seems to have gotten his heart broken by a girl he likes (I see you in a light). He tells himself to move on (Look forward to the sun), but he is also spiteful towards the girl once she starts wanting him (You see me I don't care). Awesome bastard of a song. My favorite so far on the LP. |

Ridiculously beautiful song. Even though it has no lyrics, the thing about instrumentals is that they always leave you with some kind of feeling or remind you of some kind of feeling. This song tends to remind me of lying down in bed after a very long day. After another few listens, it occured to me that you could die to this song. I told my incredulous friend and made him listen to it. He fell in love with the song and agreed with me. This song is the soundtrack to a slow death, if you ask me. |

In the notes of the Best of Luna compilation, he explains that the song is about when he slept over at a highschool crush's house. She was a photographer and took a picture of him with a coke spoon of hers. |

Fairly obvious meaning, but an amazing message. People don't change, they simply realize who they were all along. Amazing music, too. |

The strongest and most relatable song on Alligator. Beautiful music coupled with amazing lyrics. I think we've been missing the strong suggestion that he's ridiculously insecure, too. He would want his boss to compliment him or use his girlfriend as an emotional crutch if he didn't feel confident with himself. |

"I realize now you're not to be blamed my love
You didn't choose your name my love"
Reminds me of Romeo and Juliet when Juliet asks "Wherefore art thou Romeo?" Juliet asks why Romeo has to be Romeo and come from her rival family and not someone with less drama.
Might only be a small reference to the play and not exactly central to the song or nothing at all, but you never know. |

| Snowden – Filler Is Wasted Lyrics

I'm almost positive this song is about a girl. But that's where my confidence starts to wane. Specifically this song is about a girl who is genuinely happy. She says everything in her life is complete. The speaker really admires her for it, but I don't think it's because HIS life is incomplete. He seems to suggest that he's had experiences with girls that are a little emotional and their lives weren't complete. I think that's found in the lines "You're not lost, you're not lonely." The speaker likes the girl because she's so carefree and "sits and smiles simply."
I think the first stanza or whatever it's called is describing when the speaker first met the girl. She says her "colors don't mean a thing" and the speaker is relieved to hear that. She was probably wearing black or some other dark color implying that she's sad. But since they were simply the clothes she was wearing that day, they didn't mean she was like that, once again to the relief of the speaker. My interpretation of this part is a little sketchy, though.
The second part is the speaker saying how he's trying hard to win her over. He's tried for a very long time and he's "losing patience."
I think the meaning of the words "my filler is wasted" is that she's in between relationships and, for now, he's just a toy. The speaker wants more than that because she's so carefree.
But those are just my thoughts... |

When you get right down to it, many interpretations of Roland pretty much boil down to the fact that good friends can be found in what seem like the strangest people. |
