Before anyone even comments on the lyrical accuracy, I googled the song and this was the only version that came up, post the corrections and i'll fix them, but please spare the hissy fits. Now on to what the song means. I think everyone would agree it's about craig's sanity and the problems the band faced ever since their breakthrough. First time I heard the song it got me DOWN. Along with the zen demo version of 'Don't Go', this is one of the darkest songs i've heard by them. |

Sounds like its about chris detecting how harsh people can be towards him, and maybe even looking back he saw some of the jokes at his expense, evil town is his reaction to that. He feels dull and stupid, and no one cares. |

He wasn't sound before his medication and he didn't seem like it around the time this was released, although more stable. Could be a reflection of people's attitudes toward him being drugged, "mother said get me out, brother meant get me out". Like a lot of vines songs it seems to be just raw emotion, no specific meaning; where it came from isn't important, I don't even think craig can answer that. All I KNOW is that the last 2 in a half minutes is him bleeding into the song, especially live. |

Sounds to me it might be about a relationship with a girl who actually cared about him, and he fucked it up. "I'm looking down by the streets end Girl you've been lacking a pretense" -she was plain with him "There can't be anything between It's automatic over me" -some thing's causing him to distance himself to her but he can't help it(aspergers) "Shoot like an animal machine Straight from the colors of her dream" -he lashes out. -not sure what the colors of her dream means, people don't dream in color though. "I'm looking over the deep end Time ain't a reason for defense" -he's gonna lose it "Fly from a tree to a sea bed Mean while, you've been locked in a freezer" -he's gone from feeling great(trees are up high) to as low as possible(sea bed), he's having an emotional rollercoaster and she's locked out, or locked in(freezer). I'm just basing this all on craig's known asperger's and his inability to establish relationships. I could be, and suspect i am, very wrong. Another possibility is it isn't DIRECTLY about him, perhaps the narrator is someone who he feels has his problem, and is switching tenses throughout the song. |

araw hit the nail on the head. ties in to the rest of the album about depression and confusion/insanity. anyone thinking this song is about christ, or even faith based at all, is an idiot. give chris more credit than to make a religious song named 'show me how to live'... yes he uses christian imagery but the speaker is not a religious figure, it's so obvious it CANT be that. it's about an anguished person seeking understanding. stick to switchfoot people |
