To me, this song is about two people in two completely different times in their lives. The first part is when they're young and reckless and he secretly wanted to have that American dream with her (I dreamed it was ours, that we just didn't know yet). But maybe he didn't have the guts to fully commit yet (She looks back in ways as I wait too long) and he wanted to wait until he'd matured enough to be with her (But I'm still not the man that I thought I'd be) Then the second, more slower element is where he's finally realised where he should have been the whole time (with her). |

I saw this in West end last week.. i went there thinking that defying gravity would set me off, it didnt (i actually thought i'd stopped breathing it was so amazing tho) but this one did, i cried in the taxi to the hotel room and was still crying when i got in! lol I see it for all the people that i knew, who, for one reason or another, i don't really know anymore and for those who i still know, who've been so fundamental for the person who i am now. |

To me, this is from a girl’s perspective who liked this guy for a while, but knew he was taken… so she didn’t try to steal him away (even though she knew the girl was no way good enough for him) “It was never my intention to brag or steal it all away from you now “– I think this is meaning that maybe he wanted it too and that she wasn’t the only one who broke them up… & when she sings “I watched all his wildest dreams come true… not one of them involving you” is on about how he never could have his dreams come true because his ex stopped him… but now the new girl has given him the freedom he wanted…. This is all too familiar for me =( atm I’m waiting… & just hoping maybe the time will be right. |
