| British Sea Power – No Lucifer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I am addicted to this song! x_x Everyone else has pretty much said what I was going to say. I think the chorus is about the freedom the soldier in the song is dreaming of having when there are finally no 'Lucifers' left after the war. I imagine this soldier as being rather young, because of the references to bicycles and the rather laidback attitude to action ( the 'easy' chanting, 'we will beat them all'), but this is also why he is afraid of 'what the future holds,' because he has yet to see the rest of his adulthood. | |
| Sigur Rós – Gong Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Whenever I hear this song, it makes me think of some kind of impossible dilemma, a life or death situation, or something like that. And towards the end, the person who has to make it just explodes with the pressure. Or on other times, it sounds like some internal struggle between good and evil - and evil winning...Such a beautiful, yet tragic song! It's the one that made me fall in love with SR :) | |
| David Bowie – Life on Mars? Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I LOVE THIS SONG. I might need help to get someone to stop me listening to it so much! I think it's about a screenplay writer who writes to escape the horror of the times but knows that his works are so unrealistic and romantic that they will never provide the true hope he and his audience needs. Maybe what Bowie means by wondering if there is life on Mars is that the speaker already knows there isn't; he's just hoping that there's a chance of something strange and different happening on another planet, so that his own problems won't seem so important. I'm probably completely wrong though! | |
| Radiohead – No Surprises Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think it's about a person who's become so fed up with life that he doesn't want to feel like the only one who notices anymore. He wants to spend the rest of his life with 'no alarms and no surpises, please'. And when he's old, he doesn't want to go out with a bang - hence 'a handshake of carbon monoxide'. | |
| Radiohead – House of Cards Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| When I hear this song, I think of the House of Cards as an analogy for an uncertain relationship or career that has been lovingly built up but can be easily knocked down. It's as if everyone has their own house of cards, something they care about so much and hopes and hopes that it won't all go to shit but know that it eventually will. So when Thom sings, 'forget about your house of cards, and I'll do mine,' he's suggesting that they lose their grip on everyday life and stop being so damn edgy. | |
| Radiohead – Treefingers Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I LOVE Treefingers! I cannot understand why so many people see this beautiful instrumental as filler. I only just listened to Kid A today and I believe this track is a pivotal part of its 'storyline', a time for reflection and growth. I was convinced of this because Optimist starts so suddenly after it, removing you from its calmness like a new scene in a movie. As you grow up, your hands become larger, stronger and more capable, but also more battered and rough, rather like the surface of a tree. So maybe it's about Kid A's maturity. I love listening to this song when I need to unclutter my mind. | |
| Morcheeba – Riverbed Feat. Thomas Dybdahl Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| What can I say, I'm in love with this song and Dybdahl's voice...I think the Riverbed is a metaphor for the place the speaker is taken to by the one he/she loves - a place where there is no need to worry about the outside world :) | |
| Radiohead – Planet Telex Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
When I first got The Bends, I put the volume up really high, and I knew from the weird sounds at the start of this song that it would be an album I wouldn't forget :D I haven't got anything new to add that hasn't already been said - except that it's maybe about wanting things that aren't material or that you can't define. |

| Radiohead – Climbing Up the Walls Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I always thought this song was about an obsessive stalker or a burglar, but the mental institute idea also makes sense. Absolutely scary stuff, but it gets my adrenaline running every time! | |
| Radiohead – My Iron Lung Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The first time I heard this song I loved it - the quirky guitar sound that runs through it is excellent, but I was at a loss at what the lyrics meant because they were so bizarre. But when the stanza about 'our new song' being a waste of time came around, I was going to protest because how could they possibly think masterpieces like Fake Plastic Trees or The Bends were wastes of time?!? And then I remembered how most famous bands are generally known for a certain 'anthem', like Wonderwall to Oasis or The Final Countdown to Europe. Creep is a great song, but I had no idea its popularity was such a thorn in the band's side. I'm sure quite a lot of artists feel the same way about their 'hits' but simply don't have the balls to say it or don't care anymore. That's why the bits about the uncle and the beacon don't actually mean anything, Thom's taking the piss. But you've got to hand it to Radiohead (again) for speaking their minds so brilliantly. | |
| Keane – Maps Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
My favourite of the songs Keane did way back when Dominic was in the band! I think the song means that no matter where you are or who you are, we all have a sort of 'map' within us which will bring us home. |

| Muse – Bliss Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The piano part of this song is so beautiful...also kinda hypnotising! | |
| Weird Al Yankovic – Virus Alert Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Oh, and just out of curiosity, has anyone ever tried to send the lyrics of this song as an actual chain letter? It would be a sad day for mankind if anyone would actually believe the things this 'virus' does :D | |
| Weird Al Yankovic – Virus Alert Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The lyrics of this one crack me up every time. A perfect parody of all those stupid chain e-mails I get :D Definitely one of my favourite of Al's songs. | |
| Keane – Nothing In My Way Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think the song is about a friend of the singer's whom he knows well, and whose relationship with their partner is going on the rocks or a family member has died. The singer can't understand why he won't confide in him when it's so obvious that he' hurts inside' shrugging it off by convincing himself he's fine, 'nothing in my way.' But at the same time, the singer envies his friend for trying to feel that way, to be able to be alone yet happy (for a lonely soul you're having such a nice time). So maybe the song is suggesting that it's better to be alone than to be in love and lose what you love? | |
| Keane – Leaving So Soon? Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think the song is meant to be a sort of challenge or taunt - daring a friend to break their friendship, or asking a friend why they're giving up on something they've poured so much love and pain into; or standing up to a bully, to open up his weaknesses. | |
| Keane – Bedshaped Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I don't know about you, but this is how I interpret this song: I get the impression that it's about a homeless person meeting an old friend of his in the street who's become rather sucessful in life; hence the first verse, about running down rainy roads together and living different lives each day hinting that they are equal, but it's not here I get the homeless impression: 'Don't laugh at me Don't look away You'll follow me back With the sun in your eyes And on your own Bedshaped And legs of stone You'll knock on my door And up we'll go In white light I don't think so' The pre-chorus is the homeless person pleading to his old friend not to look down on him because of how he has ended up; but then the chorus is sarcastic. It depicts his friend re-uniting with him in a blaze of glory but of his own decision (knocking on his door, with the sun in his eyes, i.e seeing the error of his ways). I think Bedshaped means in the form of comfort or made of friendliness, the shaped part implying permanence, as is, 'legs of stone' and the two becoming best friends again forever (and up we'll go/in white light). But then the dream is shattered by, 'I don't think so,' meaning that the homeless person is really expecting his friend to just ignore him. 'But what do I know What do I know? I know I know you think I'm holding you down And I've fallen by the wayside now And I don't understand the same things as you But I do' The 'what do I know' part makes us feel that people always look down on the homeless man despite being the same as everybody else, so why should his friend be any different? 'I know you think I'm holding you down,' suggests that his friend does remember him but he feels disgust at doing so, being a burden on his conscience, so this is a plea for him to change his mind. |
