Dave Matthews Band – Old Dirt Hill (Bring That Beat Back) Lyrics 18 years ago
the song is not necessarily about dave's childhood, but more about everyone's longing to be a child again. don't listen to the lyrics, and actually try to capture the feeling you get when you hear it and the feeling you get when you reminisce about your childhood..and it applies to everyone pretty much.

pretty much what i'm saying is that it's not about the actual events in the song, but the feeling of wanting to be a child again or at least having the feeling and exhileration of being young and having the world at your feet again. (bring that beat back to me again)..think of "beat" meaning "feeling."

Dave Matthews Band – Ayheee Lyrics 18 years ago
the lyrics to the chanting "ayhee" part are incorrect here.. it's more along the lines of

"ah, ee hee, ay amunaya
ey ey ah yeh hey amuna"

there is no "i'm a liar" or "come on now"
it's not words, it's chanting. next time you get a chance, find a video of him explaining the song or either buy the live at radio city dvd or cd..

it's dave's rendition of the way the the coy san (sp?) people of africa sang, and how they sang music without words, only chanting.

Dave Matthews Band – Sister (New) Lyrics 18 years ago
on the documentary "so damn lucky" that can be found on the live at radio city dvd with tim reynolds, dave says that this song was, as stated above, inspired by his talk with his sister, and that it had a reference to the "my heart in her chest, and her heart in my chest" thing. but i noticed that no one had really had an inquiry about what that idea meant, and he says that it's about the feeling or being alive because someone else is alive (the idea of having each others heart), and this is what i really love about dave. he puts feelings into lyrics and music and the listener can often actually relate to the feeling, or if not relate, they can understand the feeling.
