| This song is about robotics, technology, and science in general taking over. It's sort of an "end of the world" story about how humans will be the minority and religion will go out of business, hence the "temple of syrinx having the bake sale of the year". In this dystopia, religion will be comparable to mental illness and the proponents of science will get their messiah; a robot who will crush the humans. "The shackles of automata will shatter like their bones". In this line, the robot has seized control of his own existence, and plans to take over. | |

| I think this song is about 2 people who are planning a crime together. Once the job is pulled off, his partner takes his money and his car. The ankle bracelet is a reference to a tracking device convicted cons are forced to wear by the courts. Neil also mentions that the two people should change identities. Yellow jackets are a type of bee, but they are also a type of pill that keeps you awake. We used to take them as kids; they're basically speed and some places have banned them. I think this reference, coupled with the "so close to being cured" line hints that the crime committed was a drug deal. I think the person who took his money was a female accomplice; hence the "lose the kids" line. Definite redneck imagery here with the description of the vehicle, along with the band references. | |

| First of all, all over the Internet it says "My wish is to main you". That makes absolutely no sense. It's "maim"; figure these things out. Now I don't know if they're alluding to a particular killer in history, or if they are simply expressing personal homicidal thoughts toward an individual, but it definitely has to do with a person's dark side revealing itself. "A mistake has fallen on my knuckles"--to me that indicates that the person's mistake began when she/he first picked up the weapon of choice, be it an ax, baseball bat, anything that ivolves a grip. I'd say it wasn't a gun, because of the maiming part. This person obviously feels remorse, and is not "evil" or bad entirely, but has a dualistic personality. There is an underlying theme of remorse, even though the individual goes through with the violent act. | |

| This song is about revenge, justice and martyrism. She is fantasizing about being a leader/representative of all the hurt and damaged people (with perfect scars upon my wrists, tears...suck back in our eyes) and she presents herself as a passionate mother figure. She wants to make all of the fucked up people pay, all the while protecting the angels (hush baby...). She is willing to sacrifice herself to make everything better for the good people, and to condemn everyone who is responsible for pain. This song is remarkable. | |

| I agree with Trexor. Get off his dick. I LOVE Tool with all my heart and soul but the VERY first time I heard this song, I couldn't believe it. First few bars were like, EWWW... come on guys, why did you just suspend hard work and creative openness for this? Great music like the rest of their stuff takes a lot of creative energy to get what feels good in your soul OUT, on paper and in the studio. But it's like......I can feel how... rushed? Lazy? Cocky? They were (whatever it was) feeling when they created this song. The Pot and a lot of songs on 10,000 days obviously took the necessary and very real devotion that we feel from most of their music, but this one sounds too much like.......filler. Thanks for not making me feel like a dick, Trexor. Maybe the rest of you should at least stop and consider WHY people like us think this about the song; we all have the right to our opinions. | |

I'm pretty sure you failed to see the perspective from which I interpreted the song. I am, by no meaning of the word, Christian. I was speaking from an objective point of view, and unbiased, as a reader of the Bible and it's theory. Christianity is, essentially, a theory. Whether or not Jesus was real, or even truly righteous is irrelevant. Part of the theory that came to be known as "Christianity" was that Jesus WAS all of those things, righteous, soft-spoken, he leveled with the people, etc. According to the Bible, from which Christians base all of their religious understanding, Jesus died for the sins of the people. Whether this account was fictional or not will always be left up to debate. But the story remains the same. That is why I still think the allusions to the Bible in this song are used figuratively. To compare and contrast with the personification of "good" or "holy"- Jesus Christ. What better way to try convey a certain attribute, than to provide a commonly recognized symbol, as a metaphor? |

This song is very, very sad; which is a point I think a lot of people might not see. He sympathizes with his sexual partner, but the sex is meaningless to him. Maynard is saying that no matter how extreme, no matter how "exciting" he tries to make it that it will never be enough to make him feel loved or connected. No matter how deeply he fists (metaphorically, shoulder-deep) he is so desensitized to anything sexual because he's done it all, again and again, he can never have the same physical and emotional connection to a person so he they have to convince themselves that by doing the extreme, they are still feeling. The subtlety reference basically means that he misses the excitement, the arousal, the deep feelings he once had when he hadn't had too much of it, when there was some surprise left and he had not yet become numb to it all. I really feel for him, because I fear losing that in my relationships, just from having too much of a good thing. |

For crying out loud, this song is NOT about Jesus. The cross reference is a METAPHOR, like get off your fucking high horse. Let's look at the evidence, shall we? -He had a lot of nothing to say; Jesus had a LOT to say, very good points, very helpful life lessons. People of ALL religions and opinions learned from him and can't deny the good, whether he was real or not. -He had a voice that was strong and loud; Jesus was very soft-spoken, real, and non-pretentious. -Standing above the crowd; Jesus LEVELED with the people. He WAS the representation of the common man, the simple people's advocate. -You claimed all this time that you would die for me; According to the Bible or legend or whatever you choose to believe, Jesus DID die for us. -Not all martyrs see divinity; yeah as in- not every fool who preaches is divine....like JESUS. He's talking about some holier-than-thou, lying coward who is claiming to be LIKE Jesus, but is really pretentious, selfish, and self-important: everything Jesus was NOT. I don't know who, or if he even meant to talk about anyone in particular, but Maynard was recognizing the false saviors from the Massiah. |
