everyone who tried to comment on this song except a few, go try to write a song, then come back and tell me if it is allll about one thing!? this song is not about vampires. this song is not about rape. this song is very a7x because it is about losing control, giving way to the beast inside yourself. "he makes a beast out of himself. gets rid of the pain of being a man" |

ok, i could be completely wrong.... but i really think this song is about Switchfoots involvement with Habitat for Humanity and other such charity organizations. We're Awakening refers to, we are finally doing something. the metaphor of sleeping is obvious, and then they say i want to wake up kicking and screaming... like, they want to hop right up... Kicking meaning doing something themselves (which they did) and screaming, encouraging others to get involved (Appetite for construction tour!!??) Facedown in the LA curbside, downtown... likely Wealthy districts... a perfect place to hide his face from the poverty and pain that he was doing nothing to help. man made never made our dreams collide is an obvious God-reference. Reffering again to the city, and that the only star you will see in a city is man made, you need to escape to see the beauty of God's world. Here we are now with the falling sky, rain, desperate youth and pain...falling sky and rain, a possible reference that it is shelter that these people need, desperate youth and pain... those who need the shelter. Maybe its called ambition... they were pretty ambitious to do what they did to help Habitat. Talking in your sleep about a dream... a reference perhaps to those who speak up but never do... they are "sleeping" because they arent conscious of the world around them, but in their dream world, they are changing said world. if anyone wants, tell me and i will carry on and dissect the second verse. but this posting is LONG enough. if someone has dates as to when they got involved and when they wrote this song that disprove my theory... then i still might be right because maybe they wrote it when they decided to get involved. |
