i want to make this clear to everyone ITS BOB FUCKING DYLAN of course its about smoking with your friends, and i love the random shouts and laughs in the backround, because thats what happens when you pass a joint around with your buddies. but since it IS bob dylan, theres more to the lyrics than getting high. i think its more of trying to get through the hard times, that everyone goes through. he feels alone, but goes "hey, everyone does sometimes". it makes sense with the lyrics. and i noticed someone said it is about weed because its great to listen to when your high, which is completely true, but all high music is more than just drugs. i smoke to expand my mind, so lyrics make sence sometimes more in that state of mind. it isnt about the end of a relationship. i think its about a relationship that has already ended, and they are meeting face to face again. he wants her, but thinks he cant have her. he wants to run away with her, and not have to worry or think about anyone but her. ("i tried my best to hide in a crowded room"). but then he realizes that its over, and he came to terms with it, he doesnt want to waste his time with her, because in the end, it wouldnt work out. just at that point of realization, she wants to be with him, but he doesnt want her anymore. she cries, and he tries to explain to her his reasoning. i probably over-explained it, because its a simplistic, pure song. its amazing, really. its self explanitory. |

george harrison was a prue genious, and a poet. this song is about his optimism about the human race, love, and the future. i listened to this song when i was high once, and when the bongos start and gets louder, it starts to slow down and eventually stops for a second. it made me think of a heartbeat, and it was dying, but then something brought it back to life. i think when the world is ready to come apart, people will realize to respect others and their opinions, but civilization will be over before it is ready to be over. but i still hope that the human race can change for the better, instead of thinking they are all fucked. thats my optimisim. |

woahhello: i just want to say, this song isnt upbeat. the music is upset and raging, and the part when the drums kick it and you hear the twang of the guitar, and the cymbals crash, the intensity builds up, and you can start to feel the pain. and ben gibbards vocals are amazing and slightly introverted, but when he calls "he was a bastard in life, thus a bastard in death", he yells. the song is brilliant and powerful. its far from upbeat. |
