I think this songs pretty straight forward. I think he's talkin about people stifling their own dreams and differing what they want to do creatively because the other people cant or dont understand you then rappin about the same thing or taking the "safe route." then he gives the shout outs. as far as that chourus part.......It just sounds wierd. I used to think it was my life untill I saw it said money on the internet....but that wouldnt be the first time the net was wrong... |

Actually in the chorus its " I know you sick of the niggas big cars and watch ya," and " you see my niggas here we do it proper" but either way the man is a BEAST!! but I think hes alot different then Kanye. Im an avid kanye fan but I think his cockiness and freakin "god complex prevents him from being all that he has the potential to be. Lupe is for the greater good and has as much if not more lyrical skills like kanye and if you listen to kanyes first album they both talk about something important in their music, but if you listen really to their styles I dont think they sound anything alike. really I dont even know why were comparing the two. Its like comparing pizza pie and pizza. its not an accurate comparison because down to the core they really arent the same thing. but I roll with the both of em. |

NICE SONG. Really I agree. I believe its about being true to yourself and also forshadowing him leaving the rap game. Him stating how hard it is too be a superstar and saying that most people even though its a stresser and they arent getting what they want and the games having a negative effect and dangerous effect on them they dont want to leave the spot light. (second verse "most of us dont want it to fade, we want it to braid meanin we want it to grow meanin we want it to stay) also really good reference comparing hairstyles and lifestyles. like a fade makes your hair go away i.e. a low haircut but a braid entertwines your hair and makes it grow just like what some do with the dangerous spot light life. also the governor part I think is like him saying you alomst get a relief ( which is death in the metaphor but I dont think he wants to die.) but they keep him in his cage ( the spotlight but not hit by the beam or really laser of the spotlight) but even though his life was just spared the audience doesnt care because they want a show. With Lupe saying hes only going to do one last Album this song is almost like a pre eulogy to his carrer in mainstream music......my god that man is amazing! |

I agree with the above statements. A gangster come back from the dead which can also be takin as hip-hop. alot of people say that our culture is dead in this since because its become about all of the things that the man does in this story. also it might be tying to point out that his image didnt shock him because metaphorically (like the hip-hop culture) he was allready dead inside anyway so now the outside just reflected what he already was. walking around dead. and with that said he goes back to the very same thing he had allways been doing in his some what life before. another thing is that when he dug himself out of his grave the sun blinded him off of his chain. speaking of how materialistic items often blind us in hip-hop, just more proof that this mans life parallels what is known as the game. |

yup. lol I agree this song is pretty self expanitory and actually if you listen to the track before this on the albon entitled "the die" which has someone die at the end where he is sent to hell where he's speaking with satan in this song which is a personification of the rap game which now a days represents the drug game and all the modern day evils he speaks about. |

I agree mostly with whats been stated. I believe the box is refering to the metaphorical box ie. "thinking outside the box" it represents what society buys into. and he never actually says that the person is in the box seeing as hes watching from the outside, so I believe hes looking over our society and dosnt approve yet is so rapped up in it that he cant say anything to change it. so he does what everyone does while silently protesting in his mind. also he maybe thinks if he can know more about it than the people inside then maybe he could change it. thus making him like the people in the box but also hes trying to destroy the box ( he chains himself to the box)so hes in a neverending cycle. and the locksmith represents the big wigs in the industry that dictate whats "cool" and "in the box" the doctors are the commenters of the culture that automatically ignore anything from it which puts him in the same catagory as the others in the box taking away his voice which is the lyrics the things that make the songs and leaving an empty song....the instrumental. |

Well I agree with the statement about the children being trained to kill in africa, but I also believe that mostly this song is about war or violent video games. It displays by the begining intro and content in the song that these games have a powerful influence on the young mind. confusing reality with games where if someone dies theirs no funeral and no ones really effected. This one might be a long shot but I think it also speaks on the government making money off of the war by creating these simular games and basically war training children who they cant legally pull into their war yet " but the guns are just to tall for you, we'll find you somethin small to use" and also demonstrated by the line"childhood destroyed devoid of all childish ways" basically the games are preparing the kids for war subliminally. |
