My interpretation might not be exact, but this is what I take away from the song. The way I see it, she's fallen in love with someone (probably someone she doesn't know that well) and has built them up in her head to be something that they're not. She's put them on a pedestal, and gives them unreasonable expectations to live up to. She's fallen in love with the idea of them more so than the actual person. (Kinda Gatsby-esque.) Regardless of the intended meaning, that's how I feel, and I can completely relate. This song is absolutely beautiful. |

| It's almost heartbreaking to hear this, because it's so freaking gorgeous, and I can just imagine how amazing it would have been with vocals. Then again, it almost feels like it doesn't need them...it's breathtaking enough on its own. I guess that's no surprise, coming from Elliott. | |

Oh man, this song is great--musically, lyrically, just overall great. All of you have pretty much summed it up. Basically, it's about a failed relationship (of any sort really, romantic or not), and attempting to let go of an old grudge, yet not quite being able to. I have to say though, I can REALLY relate to the last verse--so true. Elliott--what a genius. |
