What a cool observation. When you were noticing this did you have a particular song in mind or were you just listening to the song thinking that Omar had that technique in mind?
I've always thought the first section of this song held a lot of classical similarities to the opening of Close To The Edge by Yes; or at least a similar melodic structure.
Although I have never seen The Mars Volta live, all the videos and recordings I've heard hold testament to what inpraiseoffolly says Cedric's singing. Most of the time he seems to over-extend his voice and try to sing more than he actually can. Sometimes it really works for an effect that matches the music (e.g., 8:30 into Tetragrammaton, 6:00 into Goliath) but for the most part I find him to be a very poor singer and often wish TMV had another singer. On the other hand his lyrical capabilities are unrivaled to anything I've ever seen before and could never conceive of TMV having another lyricist. In fact the lyrics are what attract me most to the music. |

The 10 major religions being which exactly? I did some research and Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Judaism are pretty much agreed upon in most sources but the remaining 5 are very open to debate on a source by source basis. I would be very interested in hearing the rest of your theory about the Tetragrammaton. |

No, he actually says smoking a bone as in getting high. Smoking a bone is a slang term for smoking a bowl; the only reason it exists is because they is so much different weed slang throughout the world so there is a good chunk of the population that says smoking a bone instead of smoking a bowl. If you listen to the song, he quite clearly says bone, but he means the same thing. |
