i never thought that this song was about a former relationship. i thought it was about a current relationship that may have gone through some sort of trauma, but then coming out of it together has made it stronger. it's seems obvious that it's the singer that has done something wrong ("I'm so afraid that if I wait too long You'll never look in my eyes again With a look that gave me strength and gave me hope And made me feel I've inspired"). it just sounds (to me), like he's trying to save a relationship, and not resurrect an old one. neat thing, perspective. |

There are some interesting opinions here, but I have to agree that this doesn't seem to be political at all. It's about America's obsession with celebrity (the status, not the actual individuals), and how fleeting it is ("Quick, your time is almost up"). I think the 1984 reference is a dig at our love of reality stars...warning us that anything we say or do may be caught on video, turning us in to the celebrities that we crave. So true in this age of You-Tubing, yet this song precedes You-Tube by a few years. "Make all forget that they're the moth Edging in, towards the flame Burn into obscurity" The celebrity is the flame, and fans are the moths, who can't get enough of them until one day, when the fans have had enough and move on to the next flavor of the week. |

I think it's about someone admitting that they're comfortable with the person that they've grown to become. I'm not old, just older Simple enough, yet they say so much. JBJ was always good at taking what could be seen as a complex emotion and verbalizing it in such a simple way...making it accessible to everyone. One of my favorites. |

| i always thought this song was so catchy, but i had never bothered listening to the lyrics until today. i've listened to it five times in a row...deep deep stuff. it's definitely a love song...but can be both a romantic love and platonic love. incubus lyrics are always hidden (or not so hidden) treats! | |
| Fastball – Are You Ready For The Fallout? Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this song is talking about being able to look ahead and think about the consequences of your actions. The singer is talking to someone who appears to continually use bad judgment ('you get the worst of it everytime'). It uses the context of a fight, but he's warning that every action can have its unforeseen consequence ('i think that you're forgetting the blood that you'll be letting has a price on it no one knows'). in a catalog full of absolutely fantastic lyrical and melodic songs, this has got to be up there as one of my all-time favorites! Who could have imagined that this came from one of the cheesiest movies of all-time?? | |
