| Nirvana – Drain You Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I think this song is about two fetises in the same womb... twins. One is stronger than the other, and ends up taking all of it's nutrients thus causing the weaker one to die. If you read the lyrics with this in mind, it will all make sense. "One baby to another says I'm lucky to have met you" Here I literally think it is two "babies" or fetuses. "I don't care what you think Unless it is about me" This line to me means survival at all cost... the fetus is focused merely on it's own survival and is completely unconcerned or unaware of the needs of the other weaker fetus. "It is now my duty to completely drain you" I presume the stronger fetus is taking all of the nutrients from the mother thus draining the energy of the weaker fetus, or perhaps Kurt was envisioning the stronger fetus literally draining the weaker one by consuming it somehow so it could survive. "A travel through a tube And end up in your infection" This part makes me think that the babies were the result of artificial insemination... I guess what we would call test tube babies, because these techniques often result in pregnancies with twins, or triples, etc. like the Octomom for example. The infection part is telling me that the stronger twin will effectively kill the weaker one like some sort of infection that consumes it. "Chew your meat for you Pass it back and forth In a passionate kiss From my mouth to yours I like you" Chew your meat for you... so there you go, the stronger twin is consuming the weaker one's food/nutrients that are received from the mother. The pass it back and forth passionate kiss from my mouth to yours makes me think of them in the womb together interacting with one another. Anyway you get the idea. I like how the song has themes of innocent killing for survival. Given Kurt's interest with the womb, babies, and the like (see in Utero) I think this is a viable interpretation. Although I also think it is about drugs and a relationship as well. I ultimately think he exploring themes of hurting someone else so that you can meet your own needs for survival, whether that be literally two fetuses in a womb, two people in love where one hurts the other, an addict hurting those they love to get what they crave... it all sort of fits this theme. |

| David Bowie – Black Country Rock Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song is about drugs. Black rock is a slang name for crack cocaine. Bowie did a lot of cocaine. By using the term "black country rock" and "up here" Bowie conjures images of a mountain. He's equating getting high on cocaine with taking a trip to black country rock. The lyrics "you never know, you might find it here" refer to the mind opening experience of getting high and the experience you have while being high. The line "if it's much too hazy" refers to the clouded state of mind that drugs cause. The last two lines refer to those who simply aren't into drugs and don't like them, to whom Bowie's advice is to leave him and his high friend alone to experience it themselves if you aren't up for such an experience. |
