This is my favourite Sparklehorse song AND one of my fave songs of all time. Dunno why but I just love it...especially the bit at the end. Quality song. Totally under-rated...this should be a well known anthem! |

I think there is DEFINITELY something to do with 7/7 in this. The first 2 lines, missing out the cracks is saying that London is defiant in the face of things that try to set it back. Just ignoring them sort of and getting on with it. It's really about being defiant and positive in the face of adversity and appreciating people and the good things in life. Nice one. |

Agree with Kastin and bluegecko. Dead right. It's about dying in a car accident yes, but also possibly has a wider meaning. Mashin and Blood are as one. Living too fast and then dying. It's maybe a message to the world to SLOW DOWN!! The voice of God too. It's absolute genius how Shadow does this! |

Why does this song not have more comments? I do believe it is one of his very best. It doesn't remind me of the Smiths at all by the way...just coz it has a jangly geetar bit doesn't mean he's rippin off the Smiths for God sake! |

Cisco kid yes I HAVE noticed that. Interesting!
I always thought this was a good song, until I saw it live in Victoria Park last Tuesday and now it is possibly my favourite!!! They did an outrageously good rendition of it. I love when that happens with a song you've heard loads of times but only realise how good it really is after alot of listening. |

Interesting. It could be about a stripper etc as u say above. But it could also be a sort of tribute to his mother and that unique relationship - we dance, no-one will dance with us. It doesn't have to be about incest, just about a mother and a son feeling the same way about stuff? Hmmm either way SM is a genius |

I laughed at 'moik's comment above, nice one! I totally see the religious angle on this one, but for me I've always thought it was about just not fitting in, not feeling like u belong or have a place in the world, and being slightly depressed coz u know you're probably gonna feel like that forever. 'Everywhere eyes, nowehere to die...etc' / 'good times...' / 'i'm just a man...' all those lines make me think he's saying he just wants some peace, he's fed up. It's almost like a cry for help.... Whatever it means it is a superb song. The slide guitar is outrageously good!! |

SM! I love the 'spycam in a sorority' and 'slavic princess...' bits, but similar to the rest of u I can only guess what it means. Is it slightly political even? Language of inlfuence? Hard C's, is he referring to politicians, dead and alive as a harsh word beginning with C. And maybe the alaska, nebraska, vermont bits are references to injustice that the powers that be are aware of but do nothing about coz they've sold their souls...'my mother i forgot', or something like that. Even a hot princess is linked to political backstabbing. And I always thought it was traitor, not trader of a lowland breed?
Great song anyway!! |

Sometimes people get caught up in what the band/writer intend the song to mean. What matters is what it means to you! Who cares if it's about divorce or drugs or whatever, for me it's about my woman who i lost but then got back again 'i figured it out, i can see again'. This is song is f***king ridiculously good. Probably my fave song EVER. The drums, guitar bit, the guitar at the end, the bassline at the end, the emotion in the singing and words. I saw it live and sang/shouted the words louder than I ever though i could!! Absolute WORLD CLASS!! I CAN SEE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
