I agree with Laura T's interpretation... and adding to her point, 'The day our house collapsed, I went downstream' could refer to when Virginia Woolf's house in London was destroyed in the war... which perhaps made her even more depressed... |

on the album cover there are some extra lyrics between the lyrics for 'secret garden' and 'let's go (get lost)' ... are they meant to be part of a story? |

I thought this song was about a couple getting married, and moving to a new house together... and although they are excited about the future, they are also upset over leaving behind their past... and perhaps freedom, in a sense - since they are now committed to one partner... |

As Bluebells said... 'the libertine is locked in jail' refers to pete doherty... I saw Patrick live a few days ago and as he introduced the song he said that he wrote it right after pete doherty was put in jail.. and he carried on by saying that it was a good thing that pete doherty was finally put in jail, and that he should sober up - lol |
