| I love this song, it is not Tim Minchin's usual comic style but it is truely one of the most beautiful songs ever written! I think what he is trying to convey is that his love for this woman is one of those infuriatingly frustrating things. Maybe he is saying that he can not get enough of her when he talks about the "symphony on mute" and "last breath of salty air." And when he writes "an overused metaphor" he is saying she cannot be summed up literally, only in metaphors which he tries using too often. But generally he feels he loves her too much, so much he feels he is "drowned" in his love for her. When he sings "there's no point in turning round" and "there's no point trying to find dry land" he is saying he can not even try to stop loving her and he will only keep loving her more. That is my take on it anyways. I know what you mean MISSILE, it is wrong that more people are not listening to this!!! Anyways, thanks for reading this if you got to the end!! lol XxX | |

i really like this song, i like hyper music too. that one has a sense of anger about it while this one is just sadness. they are almost identical lyrically and the basic tune is the same. it just shows how the same thing happening can have different consequences. yet i still don't understand the actual lyrics yet, anyone explain? X |

i think the intro is about us knowing the meaning of life or death. but the reason we think we dont know it is because it is too bad or scary. which is why we are naturally scared of death, we only develope a resistance to that fear through living. The pain that grips you --> Shame we hide our eyes is saying that our lives are filled with fear and pain and shame, so we hide away. Please don't be afraid --> Screaming in our hearts i think amy lee is talking as life, maybe it is saying that life has fallen in love with death. and that life is the darkeness and death is the light at the end of the tunnel Can't wash it all away --> Can't scratch it all away this is the truth that life and death, though they are in love can nevver be together. at the end when it says 'i'll die if you do' she is saying that she loves him so much that she would end all life just to be with him. |

"I don't know the first time I felt unbeautiful The day I chose not to eat What I do know is how I changed my life forever I know I should know better" this part is about her not knowing what happened, she doesnt know when she fist felt the need to stop eating, she just knows its changed her life forever.
