From what I can tell the repetition of "are you here" is her heart thinking out loud, in a sense. A conflict exists between what her brain knows and her heart feels so she asks "Are you here?" because her heart is still filled with the same love she had for him before his departure. For the heart, it's as if he never left. The brain, on the other hand, knows he's gone. |

Can't get enough of this song... Brutality and Beauty all in a dark lil' package. My personal favorite from Opeth.. dunno why this one just always stood out to me in Still Life. You can just really feel the emotion in this song.. All the anguish..sorrow o.O Fuck yeah! \m/ Long live Opeth. lol |

I personally think this song is about the character(not saying the album is exactly a concept but there are still remnants of that concept in the album) finally finding a way to escape the devil ('fever') and all the pain satan's been bringing him, even if only for a few, brief 'Hours of Wealth'. Just my two cents ^_^ Then he thinks back on the people he knew or thought he knew and realizes he is all alone. (This also sort of follows the concept becuase when I think back, if I remember correctly, I interpreted some of the lyrics to be that the 'character' believes everyone around him to be possessed and not him) He then decides he needs some time to find his true purpose and after that, he will rise again. Rise to fulfill whatever's calling him. |
