Peart, all of Rush really, was massively inspired by Ayn Rand and that comes through in a ton of their lyrics. If you know her work you'll see that this song is not about racism, oppression, woman's rights or anything like that. Its about the idea that equality is not automatic and cannot be forced, when it is its done by hatchet, axe and saw. Is cutting down the taller tree to the smaller trees level fair? |
