| Arcade Fire – Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| "There are mountains beyond mountains" is a Haitian proverb about how there is always another challenge to face after the one immediately confronting you. Regine has Haitian roots, so maybe she's using the proverb to say how even if you got rid of one of the "dead shopping malls" there would just be another one behind it? | |
| Bloc Party – Idea for a Story Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Okay, so in light of Kele's recent, "hey guys, I'm officially gay" announcement, I'm going to say this is definitely about AIDS. I'm projecting that the fags in the red bow ties line is either about the frustration kele feels with mainstream gay culture, either a) in the way that they wear the AIDS ribbon almost as a meaningless fashion statement or b) that when people see a guy who is really stereotypically gay it ruins it for the non-stereotypical gays because it reinforces people's prejudice. Then the chorus: Wouldnt it be too divine With a start, middle and an end Wouldnt it be too divine If we could see a way out is just about how there is no cure for the disease, no way out. Talons also sounds like it's about AIDS. |

| Bloc Party – Mercury Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I agree. Silver Lake and Williamsburg are the hipster epicenters of LA and NY respectively, and so the lines about picking another stranger and falling in love definitely seems like a shot at the emptiness of the whole culture there. "You're starting to hate all of your clothes" also seems like it might be a critique of hipsters. | |
| The Radio Dept. – Strange Things Will Happen Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"Today was a pretty day No disappointments No expectations on your whereabouts And oh, did I let you go? Did it finally show that strange things will happen if you let them?" This song is great. To me it's about the first day when the singer truly begins to move on after failed relationship. She had been trapped by the post-break up obsession, where she "accidentally" bumping into him (hence the expectations about his whereabouts), and then is always disappointed when he doesn't respond the way she wants him too. She hadn't truly allowed herself to let the relationship go, but now she has, and it's liberating. Break-ups often feel devastating and it's hard to have perspective on them, and so she is surprised when she finds that she actually can allow herself to move on with her life. "Strange things will happen if you let them" So good! |

| Arcade Fire – Wake Up Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This was an oddly poetic response. I couldn't agree more. | |
| M.I.A. – Bucky Done Gun Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Brailtothenight, don't be a smartass. Reading it to be about "rrrrrough sex" as they put it is perfectly legitimate. Of course it's not only about sex, but the references are there and very blunt. | |
| Thao Nguyen – Chivalry Lyrics | 17 years ago |

This song is perfect. It came on my ipod and probably like the rest of you I had just gone through a break-up exactly like this. The song is so simple but gets at so much. There's nothing in your eyes but slightly amused = genius |

| Rilo Kiley – It Just Is Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| No, you said that very well. I never totally understood why that line was in there, but I think you hit the nail on the head. | |
| Bloc Party – Cells Shaped Like Stars Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Where can I find this song? | |
| Franz Ferdinand – What She Came For Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The way he snarls some of the lines (like "Oh do you feel the, oh do you feel the pressure") is fantastic. | |
| LCD Soundsystem – All My Friends Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Agreed! | |
| Rilo Kiley – A Town Called Luckey Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
If I heard this song without any context I would never in a million years guessed it was Rilo Kiley. So creepy! But kind of fantastic. At the same time it fits in well with More Adventurous, because it is one of the story songs that Jenny does so well. |

| Bloc Party – Talons Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Oh, that makes a lot of sense. When I was just listening to this song I had no idea what it was talking about, but AIDS fits perfectly. Also makes sense because I think the B-side to Mercury, Idea For A Story, is about the same thing. Kind of makes me worried about Kele! http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858735622/ |

| Bloc Party – Your Visits Are Getting Shorter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Don't worry, I thought the exact same thing | |
| Bloc Party – American Kids Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Where can I actually get this song? | |
| Bloc Party – Selfish Son Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song redeemed Jackknife Lee completely in my eyes and then I found out it was actually produced by Eliot James. Are the lyrics, "this city is razed" or "this city is raised"? I'm not sure |
|
| Bloc Party – Idea for a Story Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| A song about HIV/AIDS, perhaps? Makes sense with the S41 line and the "all these f**s ruining it for the rest of us" one. Otherwise, I have no idea what this is about. Very interesting song though. Love the accordion! | |
| Bloc Party – Signs Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
The last two comments were really interesting, especially the part about the bluebells. I'm a bit confused about what his relationship to this person was. The subject of Biko sounds like a family friend, but this one seems more like kele's partner (mostly because of the "last time we slept together" line). Does anyone have any insights? |

| Belle & Sebastian – If She Wants Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| well Stuart Murdoch should be happy now because I think this song counts as that one "near pefect" thing | |
| Rilo Kiley – Rained the Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Haha, this song is so weird. I love Jenny's fake accent thing in it. As for the meaning, it's about a relationship that's going sour but mostly I think this song was just made to have fun and mess around. | |
| Bloc Party – SRXT Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The only thing I can say about this song is it is simply beautiful. When Kele sings, "I called up Eugene, told him I was drowning" it is musical perfection. It is almost as if he is choking on the words. This is one of the few songs that truly makes me want to cry | |
| Bloc Party – Emma Kate's Accident Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. The guitar and sweeping, almost psychedelic vibe paired with that haunting chorus completely makes the song for me. One of my favorite Bloc Party songs. As for the meaning, Wox77 seems to have said it best for me. It is a relatively straightforward song about Kele watching his friend be abused by her boyfriend and her not being able to admit it. I always thought it was "There is a difference between loving and being loved" which makes sense in the context but "being in love" makes just as much sense. | |
