| Tod was on a three year sabbatical in the middle east and asia when he wrote the songs on The Golden Hour. He said in an interview he was basically sick of America, and wanted to see the countries that we were bombing. He might have been traveling in an attempt to look for deeper meaning in life, since American culture can be so materialistic. To me, this song is an expression of the disappointment he experienced when he realized other cultures are just as clueless about the meaning of life as we are. | |
