This is, in my opinion (and I can't stress that enough, considering some of the responses on this site I've read), a great example of Linkin Park's abilities to go outside of the normal formula they use for songwriting. As for the message, I believe it is a spot-on description of how this war has affected the world. This war is unwarranted, and should not be allowed to continue. Although we may only receive 10% of our oil from the middle east, what better excuse to corner the oil market by invading a country where oil is its number one export? It can be called a holy war from both sides. The Muslims may be killing the "infidels," but couldn't the same be said about the Christians fighting and, especially, leading this war? Back to the song, I listened to this song with a friend of mine whose brother is serving in Iraq. It made us both upset, to know he may sacrifice himself for an unjust cause. Kudos to Mike and LP for writing such a poignant song. |
