| I love the direction they've gone in with this, quite refreshing to listen to. Reminds me of gambling, maybe with life (using drugs, suicide etc). | |

| Makes me think the 'it' he is referring to is chemicals (drugs mainly), chemistry (emotional) and science (in your frequency, family tree (genetics). | |

To me this song is about people looking back on being young and pretty care-free. It reminds me of a young couple drinking, taking drugs, driving to random places, swimming wherever and at whatever time they feel like it and stealing from cops houses/maybe shoplifting - just enjoying life without boundaries and rebelling. Maybe they are older and drinking, remembering the past (stuck on rewind) or maybe they aren't old but have had a rubbish time at home and have left home early/eloped. Whichever it is, they seem keen to carry on breaking the rules by robbing the houses of the law-enforcers. The section: ‘lets take a ride and push it through suspended animation glue and blame it on apartheid’ makes me think that they want to make the moments they share riding around (in a car or on a bike maybe, but it just occurred to me that could mean something sexual) together to last forever, like in a photo or with stop-motion animation. The ‘blame it on apartheid’ bit makes me think that they want to blame everything on the miserable prejudiced old people in the past who took their discrimination and kind of legalized it. It could also be about an inter-racial relationship actually, and the reason they are in the relationship and want their moments making love and generally being together to last is because apartheid would have said they shouldn’t be together, but they are the rule breakers, and so they do the opposite. It would also make sense that they want to drink or forget, and that they may have eloped because their parents wouldn’t approve. Disclaimer; this is my own interpretation, it’s probably absolute nonsense! |

| I love this song, but it always leaves me feeling sad; it's so sarcastic and bitter. I almost feel like he's making fun of the people who write books slating their families - maybe it's my personal response because my mum tries hard but is very passive, so things are difficult with her partner, but the bitter line about his 'mommy' sounds sarcastic and a bit too close to home. It makes me feel really awkward, and I almost feel sorry for the weak parents whose unhappy home lives get publised because they have an abusive partner. Molko sounds, to me, a little sadistic here too - like he's provoking her into a response. It also sounds like his mother has tried but he is just detached from family now; devoid of emotion and love for his family. I do love this song, but what it means to me means I feel uncomfortable listening to it. | |

'Someone tried to do me ache (it's what i'm afraid of)' Sounds like he is scared of being raped...What does it mean?! Anyone know? |

I didn't realise the racist connotations of the attack with the colour blindness thing, thought initially the attack was homophobic. I think it's about him realising there is no god (the Jesus line would also be relevant) and that there is only science looking out for you. It seems to empower him too; 'I was brimming with defiance' The line: 'Doctors looking down on me Breaking every law of science' also mentions science, so I can't really work out whether he believes in religion and miracles or science more. The song may not even have anything to do with this, but to me this song is about questioning, and outlooks changing after life-changing events. |

| Not that this means anything, I know it's probabably irrelevant, but one of the three wise men was called Balthazar, which would also give a new dimension to the 'fallen star' line following - perhaps a reference to lost faith in Jesus/religion. I don't pretend to know too much about Placebo songs, I try to appreciate the lyrics but with the ambiguity they could mean a number of different things. They are beautiful because they can mean different things to different people. | |
