Because of the first 2 verses I thought this one is about a dictator somewhere in the middle east. You know, a megalomaniac, who thinks of himself as some kind of god.
I found it to be a prelude to Outcry as in that song the band supports the revolutionists who fight for their freedom. |

Maybe it's just me but the acoustic guitar at the beginning of the song reminds me very much of the theme song from the movie The Deer Hunter.
I find this song very touching, uplifting even, contrary to the subject. John Petrucci kicks ass with his excellent solo at the end. Gives me goosebumps. |

Beautiful song. It sounds so simple, whenever I heard it, I thought, nice, another love song. Just this last week I listened very closely (having bought the album finally) and heard babysounds and payed attention to the lyrics. Very moving. |

It's obviously about someone who wants to take care of the one he loves. But due to the riff from the musical Phantom of the Opera I get a bit of a creepy feeling of someone who wants too much to take care. He says "I'm your guardian angel" but he actually wants her all for himself. |

If i'm not mistaken, the lyrics were not written by Freddie, but by Dave Clark. Included in the musical Time, it was meant for Cliff Richard, but during the recording of the song Time, Clark was pleased with Freddies vocals and decided to let him sing this song as well.

I always thought the same as lurking-panther (heartbroken but going on with your life) but as I reread the lyrics last week I also have another explanation.
The line: I don´t mind doing time, I´m happier being alive
sounds like it refers to someone in jail (doing time) who could also have gotten the death sentence. Looking back on his life he now wants it to be like it used to be when he was younger (line: Restrained to meet again. My friend do you think that we ever will).
When he's released he realises his life is just beginning, and he wants to make something of it (line:You´re only just begun, to live your life! for you... ). |
