Anberlin – Naive Orleans Lyrics 18 years ago
This is directly from the Jacket of "Lost Songs"

"This song was about heartbreak & trying to move on after such an event. After Katrina, I recieved several e-mails from residents of New Orleans, telling me that this song helped them in their journey towards recovery. I wish we could have done more to help, but I'm just elated that we could help the victims in this very, very small way."

Obviously, it was written long before Katrina, so unless Stephen is physic and decided not to tell anyone about it, this song really wasn't meant to be about Hurricane Katrina. However, a lot of people now relate this song to the disaster. But the song was ultimately about heartbreak and getting over it.

And partyboy, I wouldn't be so cockey. I've been to 2 Anberlin shows in Orlando (their hometown) this year alone and they said the same thing. And I'm sure they've said it to about 500 other places too. lol.

Anberlin – Paperthin Hymn Lyrics 18 years ago
Ok.

1. The song is open for interpretation, and I'm not bashing or disagreeing with anyone else's opinions of what this song means. In my opinion, it has several meanings, such as losing a loved one and a few spiritual meanings as well. But, I was watching an interview with Anberlin on some website, when they were the artist of the week on some music tv station (not mtv, vh1, or fuse). They specifically asked Stephen what this song was about (the interview took place right after the release of the music video) and he said (not a direct quote, but pretty close) "When we were making this album (ntfp) the band was really going through a lot. Joey had just lost his sister..."
Make what you will of that.

2. Although Anberlin is not listed as a Christian band, many of their songs refer to Bible verses in some way, shape, of form. Also, all of the members are Christians and do not deny their faith.

3. About the whole Godspeed lyric thing...
"When needles and lovers collapse on guilty beds" might be talking about sex, it might not. But it's not putting sex into the context that most other music does these days. It's talking about sin, and your sins catching up to you.
