To me this song is a commentary on religion.. and here's the surprise: taken from the point of view of God or gods or whatever deity figure you think they are giving voice to! The first verse is essentially God saying I can make you write about Me and about yourselves and My relationship with you. "There's a head that pointed five degrees to the right" can represent that image of Jesus' head tilted on the cross after He died. And the sentence immediately after that can only mean "there will only be so many of us, gods" The chorus could mean: "in order to keep Me alive, attribute Me some subtleties, give Me some people you choose (as prophets) to represent ordinary people that went through a huge change or an epiphany, and just give Me all of your hopes!" The second verse, God is probably conceding that He is a lie, and the "knee scrapes" line is just His way of looking at His worshippers. "military moments" could mean that in the middle of wars you will suddenly believe in Him, and that very belief is going to be your only way of explaining how you came to be in this world. The verse ends with Him asking the people "do you think I am temporary"? The third verse, is kind of funny, God is saying "Hey I wanna love, that's why I created you. And I'm just good with words, they sink into your heart. I know that maybe some words you can't understand, but that's actually the time when you have to concede because when you think you're right is actually when you're wrong!" I'm not sure about the last sentence of this verse. What are your thoughts? the first time I listened to this was in my car, I didn't pay much attention. But when I got home I had this urge to listen to it again because the piano kept playing inside my head. I was taken by the flow of the piano and Torquil's words. To me the song is about that big fight in your relationship and you're playing the part of the good guy (or guilty guy) trying to mend things, trying to make it work again. |

actually I've discovered even more... when they say "one more night" it's because the relationship is stuck. The girl wants to leave but the guy manages to lure her to stay each time and hence in a nutshell "one more night". so I've found some meaning.. the part where they say: "Release to the sky, look him straight in the eye And tell him, right now, that you wish he would die You'll never touch him again, so get what you can" means they reach the end of the sex (orgasm), she looks at him in the eye and tells him she wishes him dead and that's because she wants to completely destroy him including his heart. And the girl is the one who broke up the relationship. And yeah.. what Torq said about "fucking someone to death" means the girl killing the guy's heart using the breakup sex.. "Leaving him empty, just because he's a man" means either the girl hates men for some reason or.. she really really hates this boyfriend. |

to me, "pressure kids" are young people who want to be different just for the sake of being different. "do it all in the name of the weak and the wrong" as in: these pressure kids justify themselves as bearers of the people's voice "they will love to hate" is just what these pressure kids like to do. "they all love to play themselves" means they love to indicate as if they are being themselves which is some kind of self-deception "they all just play their ends" means they will do their part but only what they think is their part and you can't expect anything more from them "they like to escalate, believe the measurers will form an alarm" to me means they like to raise an issue but they can't be expected to make a sustained effort to it because they expect somebody else will do just that "who live the save-me lives and fall into arms that will always give us away" doesn't seem so obscure, the pressure kids live the kinds of lives that is essentially about them wanting to be saved (e.g. doing drugs) and falling in with the wrong people |
