| also, the monkey could be a military commander (namely George Bush, ex commander in chief who was president when the song was released). | |
| Butthole Surfers – Dracula From Houston Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think it's about a guy who is/was in the army. Like how the chorus goes "oh no, we gotta go...we're not gonna live forever...why, why we gotta die?" Also, the part that says "Rebel Joe, wigging Jane" could be referring to GI Joe and GI Jane--army action figures. A further interpretation could be that the song is about a guy who is/was in a war, but went crazy because of it (since a ton of stuff in it [like dontpanic42 said] are just random words and phrases. | |

i mean, like because he thought he was doing God's will, and because "flinging out the fish and the unleavened" would be communism at work and the austria/germany refrences relate to hitler's life before he rose to power |

| Franz Ferdinand – The Fallen Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think it's about Adolf Hitler, his communist movement, and his attempt to purify Germany and the rest of the world. It sort of all fits...the religious lines, the "destroy" lines... | |
| Muse – Thoughts of a Dying Atheist Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think maybe the title doesn't mean "what an atheist thinks as he's dying", but rather "thoughts ABOUT some atheist who's dying". like, the guy's thinking about the end of the line for an atheist, and this topic pains him. in fact, he almost feels like it's haunting him. i think the line "Are you afraid to die?" is the most clear evidence of this theory. ok for what i actually think: the first 2 verses are a dying atheist speaking to God, doubting whether or not he's actually an atheist. he's freaked out by an omnipresence that he can sense, but he is hesitant to believe that God is in the room with him as he goes - "floating in between where our worlds collide." the 3rd verse is God responding to the dying man asking him to be honest, and say if he truly is scared to die. the man's response to God is the chorus that follows: "it scares the hell out of me....", obviously saying that, yes, the thought frightens him. |

| Panic! at the Disco – Mad As Rabbits Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
the dog called bambi is probably refering to innocense. (the disney movie Bambi is about a young deer who is all too innocent for the world into which he is brought.) When he is "at the end", it means that he was hanged on the rope. he is dead. so that part of the song is about innocense ceasing to exist in the world. The "calendar business" is how time passes inevitably. having a bambi-esque character attempt to save that, is like someone trying to alter the fact that time will pass. at the same time, I think that parts of this song refer to drugs. "bushels of bad habits" could be a reference to an addiction, like to marijuana or something: "come save me from walking off the window sill" is like begging somebody to help the person regain himself -- STOP using the drugs "or i'll sleep in the rain" is a threat, like warning the "map" (from the next phrase): "If you dont stop me from abusing drugs, I will die." because sleeping in the rain could be another way of expressing Drowning, which would mean death. "dont you remember when I was a bird and you were a map?" is like saying, "do you remember when i DIDNT need your help?" (because birds dont neep maps to navigate- they fly on their own.) this is relevant, since the speaker is NOW asking for help, he's trying to bring up that he didnt ALWAYS need help. next, the song changes narrators. it is omniscient, and begins with "now he drags down miles in America" which also has a drug reference: DRAG (as in, on a joint or something). the main character is now just wandering aimlessly, smoking, whatever. then it goes, "briefcase in hand", which could mean that he is now SELLING drugs, like a traveling salesman. "the stove is creeping up his spine again, cant get enough trash." i havent figured out what the "stove" is, but not getting enough "trash" is talking about the need for the guy to use more and more drugs, as he becomes solely dependant on them to live. in other words, he can't get enough. the chorus, of sorts, is just giving an overview on the man. "bushels of bad habits" is his addiction, "mad as rabbits" is how is currently is (high due to the drugs), and "who could ask for anymore?" is just a sarcastic remark made by the 3rd person narrator as a way of saying how stupid the guy was for falling into a trap like that. the next part starts with "his arms were the branches of a christmas tree," which could be further confirming the theme of pot (the known symbol being a green, 5 pointed leaf). by being a "bird" (from the first section), he is able to look at the christmas tree with a bird's eye view, which would probably look something like a leaf of marijuana. the devil preaching in the belfry is a way of saying that the guy has died, gone to hell, and now they ring church bells for this guy at his funeral. its just setting the scene for his death. then, it says "he checked in to learn his clothes had been thieved at the train station." this is a mystery to me. i dont have an explanation for this line. the only thing i know is that "checked in" could just be him checking into hell or something. the next part about Bambi, i've already described to be the death of innocence, along with that man who died. the only thing I can think of for the last section is that maybe it's just another view of the pothead who goes to hell. maybe the "chimney sweep" is a doctor who was trying to clean out the guy's lungs of smoke (because thats liek what literal chimney sweeps do to chimneys--clean them out.) the part about the trumpet.....i have no idea. but i think the last part about "reinvent love" is the idea that something must be done in this world to prevent people from getting addicted to drugs/smoking because that's not what someone should live for. people should live for love; by reinventing that love, you renew its meaning, causing it to suddenly stand for what love should be in someone's life. not an addiction to drugs, but genuine love. and...i guess it doesnt necessarily have to be drugs the whole time; maybe its just regular cigarrettes. i dont know |

| 30 Seconds to Mars – From Yesterday Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i dont think the little details about the lyrics matter; its more like the big idea of a murderer (a soldier, an actual serial killer perhaps) who's worried about feeling guilty or getting caught or something maybe partly about how he cant look what he's done in the eye. he cant dwell on the present or the past, just keep trucking along like he's been doing all his life... |

| Panic! at the Disco – That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
it's like The Kite Runner. "that green gentleman" is like when Amir is getting married--he wears a green suit: the color of Islam as well as new beginnings (things changing). also, the church-esque bells at the beginning remind us of a wedding. "things have changed for me, but that's okay, i feel the same" = Amir's views on his moving to America and starting a new life with his new wife, Soraya. |

| System of a Down – Roulette Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| like how confusing love it, and how wanting someone is enough to make you crazy. "roulette" like a game of chance, just a circle that spins countlessly is essentially love and longing for someone. | |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Crooked Teeth Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
its like someone made a really bad decision and now they're looking back and trying to justify that decision, but only end up making themselves feel worse about it than they did in the beginning. and the reference to the cold war is completely disguised within the lyrics and beat of this seemingly ebulient song. |
