| Modest Mouse – Bury Me with It Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think this song is about allot of things, but so far I haven't seen anyone really address these lines other than to ask about Mad Max: Well sure as planets come I know that they end And if I'm here when that happens Just promise me this, my friend Please bury me with it I just don't need none of that Mad Max bullshit It seems strange to me that it's outside the pattern of the rest of the song. I think everything else in the song is meant to juxtapose these three lines. All the other lines are about small, petty things. I think this song, like several others on this album is about the slow destruction of the world. The reference to hummingbirds that don't move is to say that we are being unnatural as animals, and that it will eventually kill us. When a hummingbird is still for too long, and is not asleep, it DIES. As an atheist, he's more likely to think of us as the animals we are than some god chosen transcendent species. He is mocking everyone that cares about their creature comforts over the world. He's mocking people who are complacent. He's mocking US. Just a thought. |

Woah! I have a totally different concept of what this song is about. I think it's about the way a band comes together. They are stranded on a "dark and isolated planetoid" of obscurity, trying to shoot for the stars, but they don't know how to go about it. Julie is either a member of the band or an agent of some sort, saying they'll help the band get famous, if they can just be patient and wait for "the big break". In the mean-time, the band enjoys allot of local popularity in bars and gigs they would otherwise have missed. Unfortunately Julie never came back with the gasoline, and the band has since fallen apart :( I love this song, it speaks to me of trying your best, even when you can't get a break, and how much fun the journey is, even if you never reach the destination. |
