I DID NOT WRITE THE FOLLOWING, BUT WISHED I DID: IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY LISTEN TO NANCY SINATRA'S COVER. I NEED JAMES LIPTON TO MAKE ME A NEW WORD FOR THIS SONG... First, I love this song. The way she pauses, as if shes heightening the desire to hear the next verse. It gives me this eerie feeling like she taking her last breath and your dying to hear what her next word will be and praying she gets it out before she passes. As for all the argument about the Kill Bill movies. I always felt like Kill Bill was sort of a mockery for all the other ninja and assassin movies out there. I first saw it when i was rather young and it was the first action movie that i liked. I always thought it was a mix between comical and action. Not to be take seriously kinda movie. It's like saying Jackass is stupid because normal people don't do what they do. Well no duh they don't it's the point of the whole movie. I guess the real thing is, if you don't like the movie then don't talk about. it's kinda pointless to start a big argument over a movie anyways. |

To me, this song is really sad ...Its about a guy (or perhaps a girl) leaving his lover, family and friends behind a place where he grew up. But I think it concentrates more on the lover ... They were both madly in love with each other and believed that distance wouldn't come between their relationship. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" - and he wants to just "hold (her) in my arms" ... by that he wanted to be able to grasp her heart and hold onto what they have/had and that he'll "never let (her) go if (she) promise not to fade away" and the next "never fade away" seems to be telling her directly instead of just a repetitious effect .. "Starlight I will be chasing a starlight Until the end of my life I dont know if it’s worth it anymore" The star symbolizes his lover, maybe due to his current circumstances he cannot go to her .. and hence will be chasing the starlight... But the last line suggests that maybe the girl has already given up/moved on and so he's not sure whether it is worth trying so hard to revive what they had. "Our hopes and expectations Black holes and revelations" seems to give a contradicting idea of what the young lovers first thought ... Distance has made them become distant and their love slowly fading ... And it seems like no matter how hard he tries to hold onto what they had he can't help noticing the fact that the love that was once there just isn't there anymore ("blackhole" = has an irreversible effect .. like as if their love is being sucked into the blackhole - unretrievable). Then the finishing line "I just wanted to hold..." seems to emphasis that the girl has moved on before him, and its such a waste how such a beautiful relationship can fade due to each other's absence ... -what micco13 said 08.20.07...anoher great interpretation (captured the mood to the very last drop) |

I think that there is a lot of dualism in the album's titular line: Our hopes and expectations Black holes and revelations Basically, hopes are equated with black holes, that more or less suck everything into them to an unknown fate. Meanwhile, our expectations are put into contrast with revelations: what we want the world to be, and what it revealed to be. This song is about someone who is grasping on to last bit of hope, most likely a person, while everything around him seems to be falling apart. He has to focus on starlight, because otherwise how hopeless his situation is would be too much to bear. Granted, eventually black holes eat stars as well...or become black holes themselves. Shine baby Shine! syd the original singer/song writer, at a very young age(16), similiar to a lot of greats, became inundated by the limelight. Thus, finding drugs, his muse, (LSD)and becoming more and more wiery of the fame and all that could come with it. He left the band never to be seen again (some say he was kicked out, but I don't believe that). Until he walked into the studio after a 4 year hiatus, while the band was making a track dedicated to him(i forget either wish you were here or shine on). They didn't recognize him for a few minutes and he didn't say a word. Then someone say'd "hey man". He then sat with them for an hour or so and said for them to tweak a note or two, and was never to be seen again. The cockeratzis would photo him here and there in his 'hood, but pretty much stayed a recluse. You were right about the lyrics for the intro, but thats Hip Hop like it or not the Jet Kung Do of music.
