Slayer – Fictional Reality Lyrics 14 years ago
Where do you get the part about government being a necessary evil from this song? All this song seems to be saying is the evil of government (and hierarchy, oppression etc.) and there doesn't seem to be anything about government being necessary.

Also, I disagree with you that government is a necessary evil. If you read any anarchist literature (Noam Chomsky, Peter Kropotkin, Murray Bookchin, Micheal Albert, Mikhail Bakunin, Rudolph Rocker just to name a few) you will see that there are ways that a society can live without government. And it has been done. Excluding the tribal societies (many of them either had no chief or the chief had only religious duties) the main examples are the Spanish revolution from 1936 to 1939, the Israeli Kibbutz before 1948, the Zapatistas in Southern Mexico now, the Paris Commune in the late 1800s (which was kind of a government but the governmental aspect of it had no authority and the people controlled everything) and the countless small scale communes, co-operatives, autonomous Zones etc.

The Haunted – Faultline Lyrics 15 years ago
To me this seems to be saying that human beings are scum and giving the example of war and hegemony. Peter Dolving is a rather cynical philosopher who has previously done many songs about how he thinks mankind is scum.

The idea of a faultline seems to be a reference to the territorial struggles that humanity is often engaged in.

"An address to the stillborn, lost brothers in arms," seems to be Dolving starting by explaining to the stillborn that they haven't missed much, they would have probably ended up in an army killing and being killed.

"A pyramid new Jerusalem," seems to be a reference to how the Jewish people fled from the oppression of the Egyptians and are now oppressing the Palestinians and using their previous struggle as an excuse for it. This is a prime example of the hypocracy that many countries partake in.

The next 3 lines seem to refer to how the dream of peace and prosperity have failed but we still pretend like they are alive and well in order to justify our actions.

"We come in peace ... strapped to the back of a live grenade," seems to be a reference to hegemony (America's hegemony in the middle east is the current example of this) and the lies that surrounds it.

The rest goes on like that, I don't have the time to go through every line but just look at it with this idea in mind and you might see what I mean.

This is a fucking powerful song. Robb seems to be commenting on how the world has been taken over by selfish, evil bigots because no-one took a stand. Well it's time to rise my friend.

I think that this song is about the state of the world. It seems to be a wake up call to people telling them to be real and to rise up against the evil in the world. Another great song by machine fucking head!!

The Haunted – Sabotage Lyrics 16 years ago
I think that this song is about the lies we get force fed every single day... The people on the high end of society are sabotaging all the rights of the people on the lower end... They lie and claim that they own us... It's time for a fucking revolution!

Trivium – Fugue (A Revelation) Lyrics 16 years ago
i think that this song is about how the world has been lied to... "preprogrammed shells" are what the common people are... they have been programed by the government and by religions to do exactly as they say... Matt is taking a stand and asking if untruth is his fate and stating that his life has been forced to waste by all the corruption... I think "blind pray to god to make them men" refers to how the people have been lied to so much that they cannot see the world properly (hence blind) and are desperate to be a real man but they deprive themselves of this by blindly following... this is just my opinion, i is probably wrong

Machine Head – Silver Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this song is about accepting yourself for who you are and not caring about your appearance. The line "i believe reflections bleed the sorrows of our souls" is saying that people with low self esteem believe they are ugly and concentrate on their appearance but lose sight of themselves. I think Robb is singing about the road to discovering your true self and leaving behind all his shallow self-hatred.

i would have to disagree with ddadutta... i think that this song is about needing to make your own way in life and making your own decisions without blindly following... the reference to the davidians seems to be about what can happen if people follow blindly...

Stone Sour – 1st Person Lyrics 16 years ago
this seems to be corey and the others monitering the current state of the world and just going "fuck"... everyone is lying and killing each other and they never step back and think why they are doing it... it could also be about how humans have a) fucked up the world and b) lost their roots.... i dont know if any of those are right but i know this is a brilliant song...

Stone Sour – Freeze Dry Seal Lyrics 16 years ago
ok this probably isnt the meaning but to me this song is about the flaws in the system of treating patients with mental health problems... it seems like it could be a response to the movie one flew over the cuckoos nest which is about similar... corey seems to be putting himself in the shoes of the patients admitted to mental institutions and imagining their response to being treated like they are defective...

Bullet for My Valentine – Curses Lyrics 16 years ago
i agree with "bishface0o"... anyone can listen to whatever music they want... but i actually think this song is based in buddhist fundamentals... it probably isn't intentional but this song seams to be about the flaws of giving into temptation and how you will regret it in later life... not giving into temptation is strong in the buddhist religion... now i myself am an atheist but i think buddhism has great values and this is a brilliant and meaningful song...

Annihilator – Smothered Lyrics 16 years ago
i think that this song is about bullying and prejudice... at the beginning and the chorus it seems to speak about how the victim feels and then progresses to the words of the bully or intolerant person and at the end it seems to be a message from dave or jeff telling the victim to stand strong and that one day this will be over and they will be fine

Trivium – To Burn The Eye Lyrics 16 years ago
i think that this song is about people who beat their wives and kids and generally abuse them and how the wives and kids feel. for example the line "two become as one, one become a slave" two become as one means that two people get married and this suggests that the man practically enslaves the woman, then the line "immolation of the human self, conflagration of the ego" is about how the people being abused will feel horrible about themselves and will feel that they deserve it. matt heafy also describes the people being abused as empty shells for the same reason. He also partly talks about the person abusing saying the he will, "burn in his own hell" being that this will come back to haunt him and describes him as a "leech of the addiction" meaning that he is sick and is addicted to it and finally tells them that they will lose in the end

Trivium – Requiem Lyrics 16 years ago
I think that this song is about how we are destroying the enviroment and we just don't care for example, "how can you just sit there and stare, the fire burns alight the air" meaning that the atmosphere is buring up and we just kinda sit there and don't give a shit and also the line about "twighlights end" could men that the world is coming to an end and the enviroment is being destroyed, and the last 2 lines just seem to cap the fact that we don't care. I think the title refers to a requiem for a lost world.

but i also think the first two comments of this could be right as in the song is a requiem to all the people dying for a really poor reason, being war over oil
