keith has said when performing this song live that it's about "the beauty of lying to yourself every day" all the stuff about classical executions is correct, but it serves as a metaphor for the real meaning of the song. you can especially tell at the end when he says "where is my head? / where is my heart?" people put up such fronts in their lives that they lose sight of everything real but it doesn't matter because keeping up appearances and investing in materialism and decadence can be consuming enough that leading an empty life can still be entertaining ("i'll whistle the tune all the way to the gallows...") |

NO. I don't claim to understand all the words to this song, but if you aren't reasonably sure of yourself, don't post lyrics. It doesn't help anyone. Your interpretations are either random words you strung together without seeing if they made sense, or forcing the words to match sentences that do make sense to you, but clearly are wrong - both of which are no help to anyone. |

| The reason for the confusion between whether the line is "girl" or "guy" is because there are two different versions of this song. The version that says "girl" was recorded for a split with Arsonists Get All The Girls, but the split was canceled and the song was never officially released. They rerecorded it for Everything's Watched, Everyone's Watching with a few minor changes including changing "girl" to "guy." If you just downloaded it from a file sharing program, chances are you have the non-album version. | |
